Fibre in my area BUT....

They installed fibre in my area recently, they ruined my driveway, and then fixed it.
Now yesterday I finally found out who they are, because they wanted us to sign off the repairs to the driveway and pavement.

Imagine my excitement fade, when I saw the name on the form.

SCREAMER TELECOMS

I spent last night searching around Google and on this forum, and discovered numerous posts about this company being worse than iBurst, and Sentech back in the day. It also appears they are still a fly-by-night organization.

Should I rather stick to my working ADSL, and wait for someone else to trench in the area, or has this company moved away from its nefarious ways.

Its website worries me, they have too many fingers in too many pies, even mentions mining and healthcare. WTF has that to do with being an internet service provider????
 
You sure they not just a sub contractor for Telkom?

Website looks weird...

But laying fibre isn't cheap, so can't really be flyby nights anymore...
 
IF you use the search facility on this forum, it brings up lots of bad press from 2005, and indeed members here who got shafted by this lot.
Unless someone can give me compelling evidence this company has turned around, I think I better keep my ADSL line.
 
Screamer used to be a wireless company. If they're laying fiber, and assuming it's the same company, I'm sure their speeds will be much better than that of their wireless.

You can always get an entry level fiber account and keep your ADSL until you are happy with it. Even better if it's an open access fiber install, which means you most likely will be able to use your current ADSL ISP with the new fiber install.
 
Well I checked last night, definitely NOT open access. So that means :(

So what I have done is head over to Vumatel's website and expressed my interest on the site
