Can anybody recommend a file sync program for the Mac (universal). One that will allow me to sync a lan drive and a usb drive's (specific folders including sub folders). I found a few but I am looking for a free utility. I would also want to sync my itunes library on the Mac with the LAN drive.

thought about that too but I'm not that comfortable with the terminal :o

After much looking and trying, I found Synk Standard that does an admirable job in syncronising folders (usb to server drive) via the Mac. It is the first one that does not want to copy everything across the first time round and only updates 'missing' folders and files on the two drives.
It also has backup facilities as well as scheduled backups/syncs. You can also add your own scripts
Cost is unfortunately $35 but it seems to be worth it.
Will run it for 30 days to see if I desperately need it!!

SO how does that work? In order to have a synchronised copy surely everything has to be copied across at least once?

If there are existing files in the folder on the USB drive and on the folder on the Mac HDD, it just compares the info and does not copy it over. All the previous sync proggies I tried have always tried to copy every over the first time you use it.

To me it sounds very similar to the smart update feature in superduper but if it works for you then thats what counts.

Always good to know another option is available, thanks. :)

Will have another look at this in superduper.
