Sitting in the lounge heading back from Portugal.

I use capitec for everyday swiping fx is pretty much Google rate.

And for cash needed yes it is needed in a handful of places I draw using my Investec card which has zero withdrawal fees at all ATMs including international atms. I typically draw 200 euro at a time as this is usually enough for a all the cash only places for a while.

Also. Most credit cards are 50-60 days interest free unless you draw money from an ATM or do efts

You're going to get shouted at for mentioning the C bank.

Is this a relic of the oldendays that people want to take wads of cash to foreign destinations?
Some of use it to take our cash out of the country to never to bring it back, of course not crazy amounts. It is just so sad , cos this week, R35k converted was only 550GBP and 900USD and the GBP is already nearly spent.

Absolutely tells me I need to earn in foreign currency . Expedited Drivers licence renewal was 25GBP

A work colleague tells me that Absa gave him a rate of R17.20 for the $ yesterday.

Is this possible as I haven't seen the rate dip below R18 anytime recently?

I've been watching the rand get stronger the past 2 days, but I haven't seen it breach R18 as yet, let alone getting close to R17.

It's still gaining as I type this, so who knows where it'll land.
