Free Activation on Frogfoot.

We can send the routers pre configured on run a script remotely. We have a set of standard firewall rules that are applied to all 'tiks. You have to set firewall rules on a Mikrotik. Not doing so is looking for trouble.

Frogfoot offers the ISP a choice of authentication methods. We use PPPOE.

The last part of your question has two possible answers:

If you advise us as to when the Frogfoot contractors will be on site to install, we will ensure you have everything you need to be on line before they leave. In this case, the router WAN port goes into the Frogfoot ONU and that's the end of that.

If the first we know about your installation is a certificate of completion received from Frogfoot, it'll obviously take a while to get you up and running.

Ah, I was not aware of that. My initial search did not reveal any concrete information, so thank you - it explains a lot.

Had a chat with a techie last week that claimed that (paraphrasing & me clearly not knowing enough about the subject) with vlan there are inherent risks involved and that you need the proper hardware and firewalls. S/he continued to spew out a few ISP names that did not look after their client's well-being and you guys were one of the ISPs mentioned.

Knowing the hardware you recommend, and knowing a little bit about mikrotik, I knew the techie was talking trash.

Any disadvantage in using your own router and not being protected by all the firewalls of the mikrotik? A stock standard router with a firewall and NAT was enough to protect oneself from incoming ADSL traffic...

Many of the techies now have "private deals" to upsell specific ISPs at the expense of others for commission. It's become a "thing".

It'll work. Just set firewall rules properly. An IP address is an IP address. If unprotected, it'll be hacked to smithereens on ADSL, fixed wireless or fibre.
 
@portcullis,

Blitz Fibre installed the line into my unit over the past weekend along with the ATTAC unit, and promised me that the splicing would be done this morning before 9 AM, but nobody pitched up however that is not what is concerning me right now.

The Blitz guy said that our complex would be live on Wednesday, however the Frogfoot coverage site only speaks of the Precinct ETA is only February 2020:

MDU Forecast Completion: Not Set
Precinct Forecast Completion: 28/Feb/2020

I don't want to get my hopes up just yet, but was interested to hear what you think of this information given to me?
My CapeConnect application form is with one of your office ladies, and I am eagerly awaiting hopping onto your service as our Telkom LTE currently in use has been really disappointing lately.

There are many variables that come into play. It could be that the complex is done, but they could (for example) still be waiting for a wayleave to drill under a road somewhere upstream from you.

Plan for March 2020. Anything sooner than that's a bonus.

Thanks! I know they are busy trenching up the road a few hundred metres, but I am not too anxious - was just worried someone has the lines crossed somewhere!
