Free SMS and WAP

Hey. I've recently been looking into a service called Kannel. It is an open source thing that can set up a SMS gateway and WAP gateway so that you can use it for free service.

Now, I know a little about programming and IT stuff. But I can't find any advice on how to get started on this... It's all geared toward Linux and OS X..

If anyone has any help on this then maybe we can get a HOW TO: For Idiots going.

reading through the docs, Kannel is a free SMS gateway, but you still pay for the messages sent. it just abstracts the link between the messaging centres and the content providers, like they say on the site :

As practically every different kind of SMS center uses different protocol, an SMS gateway is used to handle connections with SMS centers and to relay them onward in an unified form. Kannel's biggest feature is to abstract each SMSC protocol to a well-known HTTP protocol, simplifying services deployment.
