Gaming and Hardware

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (Barton @ 2.31 GHz)
Mem: 1 GB [2x512 MB Corsair XMS CL2 DDR 400]
Mobo: GA-N700Pro2
GFX: Gainward Nvidia 6800GT
Sound: Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS
HDD: 40GB x 2 IDE + 120GB SATA
Monitor: Philips LCD 17"
Optical: Sony DVD-ROM
Case: Thermaltake Tsunami

Works lekka with all games @ 1280x1024 except for some titles which dont support that resolution. Currenly dont see any reason to get a 64 bit CPU as there isnt any game that supports it ( other than Rid****'s BETA 64 bit executable ).

The 64's give a huge advantage in performance, not because of the 64bit extensions(They do very little). You have a 3200+ so I would say you can wait till the Dual Core CPU's become a lot cheaper. My CPU was getting a bit slow. The rest of you system looks great. Just the Gainward is a poop card. I will take it off you hands if you want ;) Just joking, I am a Gainward man but couldn't find gainwards where my cards was purchased. :( Had 2 golden sample products before I got my Leadtek.

I've played with the 64 bit Windows XP version and just saw a few secs of better loading times, memory management and program CPU usage over the 32 bit OS. Like you say, only if some top game DOES really have a great difference to take advantage of a 64 bit CPU then i would buy one.

The Gainward is actually slightly overclocked but i forgot the numbers, didnt want to write some guess work or else i know all the other users would have ripped me to shreds... :p

The wonder of the golden sample cards. My 5900Ultra was OC as stock and I ran it faster than the 5950Ultra. Gainward make the best cards IMO. My next card will be Gainward again. Pitty they are so hard to find in SA.

[edit] BFG is very similar to Gainward and also very good
[EDIT] The Leadtek cards are very good but they are very BIG. I am impressed with the speed I can get out of this card.

Oi! I know your email address, now give me your physical address. Don't worry, insurance will cover the loss. :D

Of course I'll need a getaway vehicle. So give your Dad a heads-up.

"Dude, where's my car?"

angellus now you are talking ****

Nope we installed motion detectors outside the house. We turn them on at night. My father couldn't sleep. He had lots of sleepless nights due to crime and fear of something happening. The system goes off and if we don't deactivate within 1min it alerts Chubb. It is also calibrated to not pick up cats or dogs. Well most of the time. Every now and then a cat sets the thing off.

[EDIT] if Fiveby5 is around ask him, he has been to my house and knows about the system.

Seems like there is still noone here with a X800XT. Damn my card is smooth. No need to overclock it yet but I'm sure she'll do 600 on the core.

@ cloud i would love one if i could afford one, i would take a x800xt over a 6800ultra anyday

I was wondering how you managed to OC so much, then I saw the Big Water. I've been seriously looking at getting one, but have been wanting to here from people that actually have one in use. What are your thoughts on it. Obviously cooling is very good. How much noice does it make, and how heavy is it? (as in can you still move case around or would you recommend against that).

Hi Utter,
I would say that water cooling is worth it, but there is a newer gigabyte solution
out which according to reviews performs better than the big water from thermalTake.

Check it out at
http://www.ngrcomputers.za.net/gigabyte%AE-galaxy-liquid-cooler-liquid-cooling-solution-p-2126.html
Personally I would have selected this one if it was avalible when I build my PC, simply due to the fact that I have seleceted a blue ligthing scheme in my rig and the green does break it a bit. (but too much blue is to much blue, even when you have a water cooler installed :D

I know that the ThermalTake is very quite, if i run my PC on stock speeds I can bring the fanspeed of my radiator down to 1600 RPM, which is dam quite on any 120mm fan.

But even at 2300RPM it is very quite, normally a 120mm fan runs at about 1900RPM - 2100RPM, and you should know how quite that is.

Heck the best way to discribe the noise volume is to say this, my power supply fan is louder !!

Also for the real newbies which don't want to build the kit I can recomend the Cooler Master™ AquaGate Mini, as it is a fully built & sealed system which takes just a long to install as a normal CPU cooler. (Not as pretty as the bigwater or 3D cooler tho)
http://www.ngrcomputers.za.net/cooler-master™-aquagate-mini-liquid-cooling-system-120mm-p-1945.html

Regarding the moving around, I selected the Antec Super Lanboy because this PC will be moved around a lot, and I have had no problem with moving my PC after installing this setup. but there are other watercooling solutions which are a lot more quiter, due to being pasive radiators, but they are external and a bitch to move around.

Building a new pc from scatch.
Heres as follows:
- Gigabyte GA-8I945P SKT 772 intel...
- Intel Pentium P4 HT 3.4 GHZ 800FSB
- Western Digital Cavier Se 200GB
- eBuyer Serial ata Cableright angled
- Antec Cooling fan with 3 lights
- Antec LANboy case inc windows
- eBuyer 600w Power supply
- ( I need a cpu cooler for a P4 chip)
- Memory, Crucial 1GB DDR2(single slot)
- XFX 6600GT GeForce 256mb GDDR3 pci-Express
- Windows XP home

All these parts comes for a outstanding price of under R9000=£768

I have the 7800gtx Geforce 7. No SLi mobo though:(
