Hi guys!

I had the good luck of running into some guys setting up a wireless gaming LAN in Pretoria. They are already running (and getting permission from ICASA) and should be advertising as soon as they are confident everything is perfect.

10 Meg per second gaming LAN in the AIR!!!

WOW!

Cheers

PS. The system they are using (Grintek hardware) has a range of 7 k's in every direction... One of the hotspots have a 21 km range... [:D]

I asked that exact same question. The response was that Internet will be included if ICASA agrees and that the game servers provided will depend on popularity of the respective games. How they will determine this I do not know.

The idea is that the network speed will be 10 Meg per second max (as this is what the infrastructure allows) and the Internet speed will be dependant on the link they use for access to the web. I heard 192 Kb/s mentioned.

When will this happen? How much will it cost. Will Centurion and Highveld be included. ISDN just cost to much to play online[V]
Thanx

I say Lets burn them

This sounds awesome, I am in Pretoria East, hope
I will be covered. What wireless technology are they using?
Normal 802.11b? If so apart from Telkom not permitting anyone
to setup wireless data connections that crosses streets what stops
anyone from setting up a wireless server and people just "connect"
to it. So if their network don't cover PTA east, I am more that happy
to setup a wireless network here if enough people are interested
that's in PTA east.

this a damn old post lol, 67 people connected to PTAWUG at the moment, PTAWUG has been running for 11 months.

COD4, CSS, Live for Speed, WoW, Battlenet

thats on PTA side, Jawug has some more and others

servers are full in the evenings ja, when the people are home

WoW

How do you guys play WoW on this network? I'm playing on EU and the ping is just horrible

funbags, not sure about WoW, i know a few okes play, but dont have exact numbers, ask on IRC - hub.jawug.za.net #ptawug

we are planning to link directly to the SAWOW server
