is this a good graphics card just gona play the odd game nothing to hectic?

IMO it should do well with almost all games these days, maybe not at full spec for all, but still good.
Depends on your other pc specs too though.

The 8600 did not do all that well bang-per-buck wise. On the suggestion of others here I went with a Radeon 3850 instead. More expensive (1750), but better bang-per-buck and I'm very happy with it.
