Weird, but can anyone help. Gmail and a few other pop mails are blocked via my adsl connection. Neither Telkom, (the router provider) nor Mweb, the isp, can help! Frustrating, to say the least. Help?

Does your router handle login or are you running PPPoE from every pc? Sounds like router settings issue.

Are you trying to send mail or receive mail? If you are sending mail it might be because the ISP doesn't allow relaying. You will have to use their SMTP server when sending mail for every different account.

If it is a pop issue then it is odd. Did it work and stop suddenly? Give more info please.

Neither smtp or pop works. It always worked beofre on another network, but not this current network, so my guess is that it's a router problem, like a closed port or something, but I'm not hot on those issues! No login required...and it's a wireless network. I'm a little scared to start messing with router settings in case I screww the whole works!

What error message are you getting? I've been having problems of late trying to send email via my american hosted emailsservers. Turns out the problem is Spamhaus.org is blocking 99% of SA's IP addresses because they are picked up as dynamic.

Sometimes setting up secure authentication to your other server seems to work

Hi. simply says outlook is unable to connect to your incoming server. if the problem persists, contact your administrator or isp.

It isn't only on overseas servers though. I can only connect to my own domain, hosted bt Mweb, but they don't see a problem....thanks anyway

See if you can ping it on the command prompt. Try a tracert as well. If those get through, could be a configuration setting on Outlook.

Of course I could also do the above, but didn't help when my IP was blocked. Is your IP in the 165.XXX.XXX.XXX range?

Hi, Im having the same problem... ?? my adsl will not connect to Gmail... line is telkom, ISP is mweb... I was thinking they might block it becuase its free pop email.. Can u connect to GMail via the web interface??? I Can't do that either, quite frustrating

Don't know if MWeb sells Local-Only ADSL ISP accounts, but that's what it sounds like the cause of the problem is...

PS: Welcome to MyADSL :).

I find the easiest way to deal with gmail is to divert it (in the gmail settings) to another email account. If you can't access gmail you will need to do this from some other PC.

no I don't think that is the problem. . . =( because i've never had a problem with any international traffic or sites of any kind... but as soon as i try log into G-Mail, it says loading on my browser for a long time, then says "The connection has timed out".

I have been using hotmail for all my emails but I need to find a free pop3 solution rather so that i can just download the emails on my computer and view them when I want. G-Mail is the only decent one I know of with more than 10 megs of space. Don't know if anyone knows of anymore??

About a year ago when invites were still needed for Gmail i could get on then, but not anymore... Looks like the Ping is going through when I ping it, and when I connect through my phone on 3G on the same computer it works perfectly, so i'm sure its some kind of ISP block, will try find someone who can lend me there ADSL details from another ISP for a couple mins so i can check if that changes anything, else I have no clue what the problem is,

thanks anyway,
maybe u have some more advice
regards
steve.

also cannot divert my emails from G-mail because that doesnt help with my pop3 issues . . becuase thats what I want

Old thread but I guess it's relevant. I'm also having issues with gmail via pop3/smtp on SAIX. My IS is capped so I'm unable to test it with that.
