Howzit again guys,

I need to host a website in South Africa with Linux, mysql, around 50 gigs space, some good monthly bandwidth etc...

Any recomendations?

Cheers,

AJ

sounds like you need a dedicated server, if i may ask why south africa?, while you can get cheap solutions here you will pay much more and lose profit and only be on a shared 100mbit link at best

Because the website that we'll be launching is going to be fairly slower if it's hosted on our dedicated server is the US. The nature of the website is time crucial. So we are in a catch-22 situation.

depends where in the US, if you need great latency personally I'd go for a texas, florida or .NL datacenter. I know this is probably not the avise you're looking for but in my experience a dedicated server in SA with low end specs and BAAAD bandwidth limits on a shared 10/100mbit link would cost 5 times a dedicated server in US or NL with a nice 250GB hardrive 1000gb or 1500gb bandwidth limit with a dual xeon processor on its own 100mbit link and a small amount of ram, 1GB is pretty standard. So I am all for supporting the local industry but if you want to keep profitiable you need to use one overseas.

oh and those prices include 12free hours LKM every week

I recommend Hetzner - been with them for over a year.

My buddies company recently went with a dedicated Linux server solution, they moved over 150 clients + email and had no downtime with any of them !

If you need fast access that is latency sensitive you have no option to host is South Africa. To host in the US or NL is crazy. If people run into their caps, the access to your site will be Slooow... Get your own didicated server and host it with any first tier ISP.

Hetzner gets my vote as well. Great service. Been using them for three years now.

yeah, I've been looking at them and their pricing is great and they seem very good...
