need a chip though

Not quite, if they can figure out how to run a flash update off an old Firmware with access to kernel mode the chip wont necessarily be needed, but this is speculation.

If they can do that, then wouldn't it just be easier to code homebrew for that firmware?

Its strange the people on that forum sound like it is the first time they have have heard about a PSP modchip...but we have had them here for quite a while.

whats the just of it?

It seems that a team by the name of Team Epsilon has 'hacked' 2.71 firmware with the help of the Undiluted Platinum modchip. They have supposodely created a BIOS replacement which allows for homebrew loading, as well as ISO loading; a demonstration of the homebrew launching capabilities has been provided in the form of a video. The authenticity is still not validated, so don't get your hopes up just yet, this very well may be a fake. They claim to be tidying up the code at the moment, and plan to release in a few weeks. Whatever the case, good work on this progress, if its real, guys!

As per your request

hm..... i have been reading about the mod chip but what i want to know is if the chip is authentic, how we gonna get it? And I don’t think im ready to open up my psp as of yet.

and thnx mccrack
