hardware routers and MyWireless?

SSH is the word man get your linux machine up and running , and yes you'll need a ethernet adaptor .. you can go and buy it from fastcomm it is better to go there, thy are in Brooklynn in pretoria coz their service - is not so fastcomm

then ill go trough the PPPoE setup with you and then ill do the iptables for you "best get a easy to use dist of linux like Mandrake or Redhat."

it is just to make admin easy for you...

May the source be with you!

so okay. explain it to Mr. Stupid... that'd be me :)

I get the Ethernet Cable, set up redhat on my gateway and that'll do the trick?

I'll also need another network card to put into the redhat machine?

You can GUARANTEE me that Star Wars Galaxies is going to work?

I don't want to spend R250 on the ethernet cable if it's useless - that'd be wasting money, and i'm not big on that.

how do i set up the ethernet cable on the redhat box? you can't help me because i won't be online to read the forums...

so, how do you suggest i do this?

PS: Just a note - Kerio has got routing tables as well, wouldn't it be possible to set it up through that? I would like to stay on windows, because that's what i know, and if i get stuck, i'd like to be able to fix it myself - i don't know linux and my experience with it, at the risk of sounding like an idiot, is that it's difficult to use.

if all else fails... influence with hammer

I honestly dont think it will be easy at all to set up in linux. There is no guarantee that it will work also since you will still need to set those routes for those specific ports.

As a supporter of your particular firewall/gateway/proxy solution (in place) I would recommend trying to add the proposed IP tables in there. It can be done. Linux basically offers you the same thing (NAT) with a different configuration interface.

Unless you're prepared to give away your PC to linux since you wont be able to do much with it when its a linux gateway unless you start learning linux fast.

Don't do anything untill I've tested SWG out through a linux NAT box [:)]

Also, don't bother with a linux distro, you're never gonna use it, Just try ipcop or smoothwall, these are linux based firewalls and are very easy to configure and keep up to date with no linux specific skills required. I'd recommend smoothwall.

If you're really anxious, and can't wait for me to receive my copy of SWG, perhaps use partition magic to free about 2GB of space on your harddrive (preferebly in the beginning) , install smoothwall on that partition and give SWG a go. That way you go dual boot back into your Windows gateway without having to rebuild it.
