hdd checker

Hey does anyone know of a decent hdd checker (besides the standard chkdsk in winxp) , one that is able to flag bad sectors like the old full surface scan in win98 was able to do cos chkdsk doesnt seem to be doing its job on my 250 sata drive i have almost a gb of bad sectors but it seems that the system is still trying to write to those bad sectors
