Help in CPU choice !!!!

I agree... Don't buy a cpu or motherboard now. Wait till January, if you really want to spend money buy a 320 gig hard drive :) more space is always good

yup or you can just wait till january when price will drop

they always drop after xmas :)

With the recent performance of the rand and prices dropped already? Ram increased fast over recent months? To wait too.... could also be a problem, but at least I think with the new toys to come the value for money could improve slightly!

That is what I am running now and the difference and performance is acceptable! Later You can upgrade the board to a better Conroe performer and the RAM to better DDr2 or DDR3 and chuck a Pentium D in this board with value ram and either sell it or use it as second system. New boards is coming to show very soon that makes best of the conroe! A Very versatile and adaptable stepping stone to gain conroe performance NOW without spending the big bucks
If I may ask, what chip are you running in that board? This might be a good solution for a friend of mine who just bought an AGP card but wants a new processor.

6400! 2.1Gig The 1.8G 6300 should also be oK but I think due to lack of overclocking ability the higher ends is better, and it can be well reused in a later board upgrade!

PS the ASRock 775Dual ViSTA board for a few hundred rand, R200.00? more, is maybe a better bet as it is overclockable and have a better chipset VIA PT880 Pro/Ultra ???

And it's stable and all? Havn't had any problems so far?

None . No problems but also look at the ASrock mentioned ....775Dual ViSTA board for a few hundred rand, R200.00? more, is maybe a better bet as it is overclockable and have a better?? chipset VIA PT880 Pro/Ultra ??? http://www.asrock.com/product/775Dual-VSTA.htm
I actually upgraded the Motherboard and Hardrives with no Win XP re-setup again. Just some simple actions to take, Plug drives in new board, chipset and graphics card and start up! Load new driver disks and Wallah Conroe at hands!

He overclocked his E6600 to 4308MHz and claimed the SA record for Super PI of 11.750 seconds! OMFG! My AMD 3200 overclocked to 2.2MHz does it in 42secs!!

42 secs is damn good for a 2.2MHz processor! I bet my old 4.77MHz Intel 8088 would have taken a few days! :D

Lol only 21? ;)

Aparently Abit are releasing a new range of mobos for the Core2 Duo that will support higher over-clockabilty in the 2-3 weeks. Mmm will be nice to see some marks then

but even the 6300 conroe is still faster than an fx 60 so i mean these cpu's at stock are fast

i wanna sell my cpu and buy me a 6300 but im worried cause bf 2 is running like a dream

ive got a problem i need to upgrade ervery 3 months :(

damn these ppl just release one awesome chip :(

ye agree killa, im looking to either go for the E6400 or amd 4800+ x2

Mmmm tough choice. Thing is, i'd need a new mobo+ram for the intel system. for the AMD it would just be the CPU (Very cheap too)

Eish but then again I need a new mobo/ram anyway

Sigh

btw, see you in a week at rage.. WOOHOO :D

I notice you are more positive about the Intels these days :D

I've always been a Intel fan, but built me a BOMB of a PC with AMD power...no turning back! I just want to upgrade my 3800+ to a 4800+ or higher. Not going for AM2 only for 1 reason. TOO EXPENSIVE. Not thwe CPU, but if I do go for that, I'll need to replace my mobo and RAM as well :(
