Help me choose a laptop

ok, i have sold my Acer Aspire 3002....the battery sucked!

Now I have a choice between the following:

HP NX6110 , intel celeron-m 360 1.4GHz ( 400fsb ; L1 : 64K+64K , L2 : 1mb ) , 256mb DDR , Intel® 915GM Express chipset , Graphics Media Accelerator 900 ( 128mb UMA ) , 15" Lcd ( 1024x768 XGA ) , 40gb HDD , CD-RW+DVD combo drive , built-in gigabit lan + Firewire , pcmcia type I/II , with windows XP home

HP NX6125 , Amd sempron 3100+ 1.8GHz ( L1 : 64K+64K , L2 : 256K ) , 256mb DDR , RADEON XPRESS 200M chipset , ATi Radeon X300 ( 128mb UMA ) , 15" Lcd ( 1024x768 XGA ) , tv-out , 40gb HDD , CD-RW+DVD combo drive , built-in 6in1 card reader + gigabit lan + 56k modem + Firewire , pcmcia type I/II + express card/54 , with windows XP HOME , Fingerprint Biometrics Sensor , support docking station

TOSHIBA® Satellite Pro Series L20-181 Notebook - Intel® Celeron® M Processor 380 (1.6GHz, 1MB), 256MB DDR2, DVD/CD-RW Combo, ATI 200M graphics

All these laptops have around 3.5 hour battery, the NX6125 is the obvious choice...but i would like to hear opinnions on the other two as well.

Yeah go with teh NX 6125- seems the most feature-rich there although I'd advise an upgrade to 512MB RAM.

Also that "express/54" refers to a wireless card or not?

It will be slower but have a longer battery life.

I wouldn't buy any of them. I was previously burnt by multiple purchases of both Compaq and HP notebooks. Now that they're joined, it'll just be worse.

Toshiba : eish ! Nooit. Seen a buddy sell 3 to clients and all 3 came back within 3 months. Then Rectron / Toshiba took weeks to fix them, after they first tried to get out of fixing the pieces of junk.

IMO, buy a Dell. Pay the extra for a 3year onsite warrantee. It'll probably add 5 years to your life ;)

and no, I definitely do not work for Dell. Just happy with their notebooks and support.
 
From what i have heard: HP, Dell and IBM are the makes to go for. For me as long as it has battery life over 3 hours, and is not an Acer then im happy.

Don't know hey my Acer is doing a fine job. I got the Acer Ferrari 3400 but it only gives me about 2h30min battery life. But given the specs that ok.

Have yet to have any problems with it.
 
Which ever one you choose, you must keep in mind that Vista is going to require at least 512Mb of RAM and a decent 3D Card if you want to do anything useful with it. For Notebooks it is 'n bit harder to find a 'decent' 3D Card, but you are off to a good start if you select one that does not borrow memory from the system, i.e. with dedicated on-board memory.

Also, do not stare yourself blind against the brand of the machine. I picked up a very decent Fujitsu-Siemens (3.2Ghz,512Mb RAM,80GB Hdd,DVD Writer,Dedicated 3D ATi) one at Makro in 2004 for R9k, which is still performing excellent by today's standards.
 
I am looking at buying a notebook soon, must be able to play games decently. Budget 13k.
Any suggestions?

Me thinks something along these lines centrino 2ghz, 1gb ram, x700 gfx

LOL ? Pleople still going to use Windows when Vista gets released ?, pffft get BSD/Linux.

Get WINE, Get x2 more FPS in most games., e.g. Battlefield 2 on Windows @ 54 FPS, on Linux System 240 FPS.

Anyway back to the topic, get a DELL.

If you're buying from AXIZ, ask them for a model without Windows, can save a bit there.
