Help... need a new LTE router, which one and will it help?

Sadly my trusty old B618 also succumbed to the same fate. I don't think it's a software bug, it seems like the on-board storage gets physically corrupted and can no longer write the settings to the ROM. I only discovered the issue when I reset the device and then tried to add a new APN and discovered nothing would save.

That does appear to be the case but you can pick them up for so cheap these days so if you can find one that's still saves it's settings it's worth taking the chance and buying it. I found one for R400 at a Cash Converters, it even comes with a six month warranty and I've seen plenty on Facebook marketplace for around R500. I tested that it could save the settings before I bought it.

Any recommendations for a router that has connectors for an external antenna?

That's quite slow, and expensive, go for a better model, try carbonite.co.za for a B618s-22d or B535

I noticed that a while back, even at R1499 it’s a good deal.
It’s strange how long it’s taken for 5G routers to come down in price.

Yes, the prices are still too high but hopefully things will improve provided that there are no AI related memory price increases !

Are you happy with your MTN 5G service ?

Vodacom is using a hybrid 4G/5G network which increases the latency which is not ideal but I am hoping that they will upgrade to 5G SA in the not too distant future. I am very pleased with the much bigger data allocations with 5G over 4G !

Generally it's been stable and fast, I have a Huawei H155-382 CPE 5 5G Router.
I get around double the speeds I was getting when on my B618s-22d which was already an amazing router, it was consistently the fastest 4G router I have ever used.

I have tried a few earlier Huawei 5G routers in the past and the performance was terrible, even in comparison to the B618s-22d, I don't know what has changed since but the Huawei H155-382 is great and it also seems to get better 5G signal. Previously I had to drive up the road for a few km's for my 5G router to even see the 5G network and I am in a built up urban area in Cape Town with long standing 5G coverage.

May I ask where you bought the "382" version, as Google searches only bring up other related models; mostly Vodacom branded....
