Hello all

What all must I do to secure my telkom ADSL wifi modem? I have changed the admin password, but what else?

On my previous wireless router I assigned particualr MAC addresses to allow access to my wireless network. I cant see how to do that here.
What am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

Tips on securing adsl wireless router/modem

Change default admin password

Go to your LAN settings and change your default router IP address to another range or IP add. eg if the default is 10.0.0.2 make it 192.168.0.1

You can also increase the security by configuring your router to use WEP 128 bit encryption (Then you will use 13 character key or 26 Hexadecimal one).

Rename your SSID so that it will be little bit difficult for a hacker to figure out which router is it.

Once you have linked your Router to your PC, you can configure it not to broadcast your SSID as well.

Close/Block pots that you dont use on your router

Most Importantly but not realy practical : Switch Off your Router when you are not using. (There is nothing more secured than it)

.......Hope some of these tips will be usefull

Thanks very much!

I must say my SMC wireless router was far easier to secure.

Can I choose any IP to replace 10.0.0.2?

securing adsl router

YES ! You can choose any ip range as long as you got a correct default subnet mask for that ip range (to minimize complecations)

eg: IP : 192.168.0.100 D/G : 192.168.0.10 S/M 255.255.255.0
start Ip in your router :192.168.0.1 end ip : 192.168.0.254

these are the only settings you configure on your LAN Settings.

Make sure your tcp/ip settings are on auto or you can manually assign them to correspond with range on your router.

If you manually assign you must also assign DNS's which is normally :
196.25.255.3 and 196.25.255.34 for SAIX resellers
