what's the budget? Cheapest I've found is a set from AIWA and it was over 5k.

Ouch, nope, that's out of my price range. I am looking hoepfully second-hand. Also, not looking for a complete new system would i deally like to keep the existing speakers and get just a receiver/amp/whatever it is called.

Sadly audio parts don't really go down much in price :-(

Seems so, yes. Otherwise the only other option is to get a low-profile (or usb) 5.1 sound card and look at getting a Logitech or similar PC surround sound system. Those are at least a bit cheaper

Was really surprised by it, yes it doesn't do all the fancy bells and whistles but it should do the job.

Thanks, but as I posted further up, I am not interested in the soundbar setup, I am old school, I prefer 6 physical speakers. Just a personal choice.

Well this is 2 rear speakers + the sound bar in front has the 3 other speakers, it does really sound good and you're not going to get a legit 5.1 system for this price.

Although, just to clarify, I have seen Logitech 5.1 systems on sale on a website called Carbonite for around R200.000, but they get snapped up quickly, so as I say, this is an option for me. Will definitely look into it. Thank you again.

Just remember those would mostly be just rca cables, the only really decent 5.1 would be Z5500 or Z907 and those only have the optical/toslink in, the others are literally rca cables to 3.5mm

Yes, I know, I had a similar system (Turando) some years back, RCA at the rear of the control box for the 6 speakers, and 3 x 3.5mm jacks for the output from the PC sound card. Amazing sound and so configurable from the sound card driver. Unfortunately the whole system just died on me. I still have the sound card I used, but it's a full size one and I currently have a SFF PC, so it won't fit, sadly

This might sound like a dumb question, but are you actually selecting "aux" on the Dixon.

Hi, @Obieone there is no menu option on the Dixon that I have seen to do that. As stated there is no user manual to be found anywhere online, so its a bit frustrating getting this system set up.

I can imagine been there myself. I am doing pretty much exactly what you are doing, using the 3.5mm jack out from a Samsung tv to an old stereo amp's aux input (RCA).
