how do i send the sms for 2c/sms

No , it's been possible to send a normal sms over gprs for some time now. Most phones have a setting somewhere. But this costs the same as over the older network - definitely not <2c ;)

hmmm, i don't know about that. i have tried it, but then i would expect to see a gprs connection being established when sending, like with mms, but it didn't...

anyhoo, it's very doubtful that the networks will enable this at normal data rates. i mean, 80c vs 2c - not much incentive for them, now is there? ;)

You guys have given some great links for IM stuff for phones.

I think the actual thread was pointing at SMS over GPRS.
Unfortunately, our cell providers don't support it over here yet.

SMS over GPRS. Send an sms from your phone like an ordinary sms except you use GPRS. No going to websites or installing IM's or anything like that.
Works like normal SMS but much cheaper.

There was a thread somewhere about it.... Vodacom3G also answered it.

I recall this post and confirm that V3G stated that the networks here do not support sms over gprs yet. Maybe someday we'll get lucky!

Well, on my cellphone I always selected GPRS for sms access and never had any errors or problems - but maybe it just defaulted to the GMS network if GPRS failed, dunno. This is on MTN though.
But it is still a normal sms - charged at the normal rates.

Sparklehorse,
On all networks, you can set your phone to use GPRS for SMS, but as the networks don't support it, ths sms goes out as a normal SMS and not via GPRS.
