How easy is it to buy MS points?

I've heard credit cards need to match location and it can be quite a mission I want to purchase 1000 points soon to test my Live downloads.

Is there a process?
 
The country of origin is built into the credit card number so if you need to pretend to be in the US for example, you are pretty much stuffed using a SA credit card. That's the primary reason you can't bluff the iTunes store; even with a US IP address and physical address

Tho I dunno how true that is. Heard of guys in SA paying for live with a credit card.

I know I pay my US WoW account with my Visa... :confused:

Do they physically need to ship something to you? The thing says '10 to 15 days shipping' ...

You really don't need this. If you're subscribed to XBOX Live UK, then simply provide a UK address to register. When you enter your Credit Card information, provide your local address, e.g. PO Box 1234, Suburb, but specify the same UK Postal Code. The credit card purchases will go through even with a UK country and UK Postal Code. It seems to verify only the majority of the information to be able to add points. This is much easier than shipping these cards from the UK.
 
Buying poitns was as easy as using your Credit card directly on your xbox till approx 3 weeks ago.
MS (i assume) started doing the country-code mathing trick iTunes has been doing since forever, and now when you try and pay with you CC it just comes back as invalid.
So currently there is now 'easy' way to buy points.

There are a number of websites which also sell points (www.gamespointsnow.com) though I understand initially registering with them could also be a bit tedious.

As to you question regarding take 2 - they essentially ship you a pre-paid card (like what you use to buy cellphone airtime) with a code you enter on the xbox.

Hope this answers your question, and good luck. I loved buying stuff directly from the xbox, but since they blocked the credit cards it just doesnt feel worth the effort to me anymore.

Unfortunately they insist on a verification code, which gets mailed to you. Mine took 8 days to arrive, but after that you can buy online, pay via paypal and receive your codes instantaneously.

http://www.microsoftpointsxbox.com for USA addresses. Paid via Google money(using my credit card) and received points immediately.

My credit card used to work for the UK until about 3 weeks ago.

2007 and we need to wait for things to be mailed to us *Sigh* Live is a pretty giant flaw with the Xbox it seems ...
 
Correction - Live is one of the highlights of the Xbox 360. However lack of official live support for South Africa, is a big flaw in MS South Africas (and obviously globals) strategy.

Even India got Live now, and apparently they've sold fewer consoles than in South Africa.

<sigh>
 
Unfortunately for us, India:
a. Has better connectivity
b. Has 1 Billion+ people which must be a mouth watering prospect for any platform.

The other option is to buy the points of ebay. Just find a seller who's willing to email the code to you before you buy.

I applied a week ago, received my letter with the code today and was able to punch in the code from gamespoint a few minutes later.

So its not too bad once you have done the verification thing.

Now just waiting for the Motegi track pack for Forza to download. :D

is this the same for buying a gold membership? 'cos ive been sukkeling all night getting an Your credit card information is incorrect. Please Verify and Try again
 error. and i know the details are correct cos they billed me a rand for every failed attempt

This work the same for Gold membership? 8 days, get your verification number then receive your codes instantaneously the next time?

I have not yet bought gold membership from them, but as far as I understand, the verification process is a once off thingie and thus your live membership will also be send straight away.

One point I did not make clear about the US one is the fact that you can transact immediately without waiting for a verification code.

But if we officially get Live, we can undo everything we've done, right? We've just changed a few settings and we'll need edit our Windows Live accounts?
