How is Supersonic AirFibre routing?

Did Supersonic provide you with the PPPoE details? Asking since I'd like to potentially use my own router here.

Using another router handling the PPPoE is that not a extra level of security or is that not the case?

Yes, but my existing set up is quite complicated. I have an Omada Managed Load Balancing router with 2 other connections already piped in. The Airfibre will serve as redundancy. The managed router (and hardware firewall as well as wifi router) are all on battery backups. A new router would mean another battery backup as well as another link to set up. I have ports forwarded for private hosting, meaning port forwarding will then also become unnecessarily complicated since there's an extra router needing setup and don't know if they're going to give me the router login details. There are a few other small technical details on my network which make an extra router extra schlep. Hence I'd prefer to just use the existing enterprise hardware already set up and not have to worry about a consumer level router making things difficult if it happens to lack necessary features.

TL;DR an extra router from Supersonic is going to just add extra work that I don't want to deal with since I'm lazy.

Also, I see their FAQs allow for what I want. So hopefully I won't have an issue. Will see.

L1 Support will just require the router to be online if you ever require support. They run their diagnostics remotely before you'll get any L2 support. When the router first came, it was limited to their management IP, however, they did some changes to the router and opened up the management service to the world. Great security... I use my RB5009 to LB AirFibre and Vodacom LTE somewhat similar to what you've described. I only plug the Zyxel in when I need support - which hasn't been in quite some time. The only difference you'll experience is having better hardware running the connection. I found the Zyxel quite flaky at times when I used it. Just keep it in the cupboard and pull it out when you need support. Remember that it's a free-to-use router, and you will need to return it if you cancel.

Alright so, I'll post a screenshot later. But installation was rough.

They spent about 45minutes trying to decide where the best signal would be. Eventually settled on a spot (but had to use a taller bracket). The time spent was perhaps worth it as you'll later hear.

Physical installation, running cables took around 1h30 since they were generally just working quite slow.

Then came set up. Apparently there are 2 mandatory firmware updates, which they did. After the 2nd update the Tarana radio got bricked so they had to go to the warehouse and get another one.... Quick swap of radio, firmware updates and setup thereafter; tht total time spent on installation was 6 hours - 10h30 till 16h30. So for efficiency they get a 2/10.

The installation was done neatly though. So here I give them a 8/10. Use of conduit would get them a 10/10.

The techie as well as Supersonic Customer support gave me the PPPoE details so no worries there. Managed to use my own router (theirs is in the box in my cupboard)

Latency: +-18ms

Download: burst to 160Mbps, stable around 108-112Mbps

Upload: 18-24Mbps

Overall I'm very happy.

When mine was done, they found signal immediately 30/30. While they were installing the tower must have gone off due to an extended power outage in the area. Techie waited and ensured the connection was working. Glad to know you managed to get the PPPoE creds from SS. The impression I got was slightly different, but maybe that was unfounded.

My signal is around 22/30 now. But BN is around 4km away so not too bad. Speeds are good so no need to fiddle now, but if I'm up for getting on the roof, I'll play around a bit. Overall I'm still pretty happy.
