How many days has your ADSL been down for?

Apparently there are about 1200 faulty ADSL lines only in the Pretoria area... including mine of course

Well, I called the 0800 600 126 number (and then pressed "4"), got through to an operator immediately (!), and she said that she has "escalated" my problem to highest priority.

Let's see. Been down since 19 December. Sandton area.

The Plot Sickens...

A technician dropped in today, tested 2 of the beast's own ADSL modems with my line - both of them synched with the DSLAM port card - he didn't do a speed test though.

My ADSL router [Billion 5102] still doesn't synch on my line, but I took my 5102 over to a friend's house this evening and it synched & connected on his ADSL line - where his Billion 5102S modem has been unable to synch for as long as mine has, BTW different exchanges - Olivedale and Randpark Ridge.

I borrowed his 5102S and not surprisingly it doesn't synch on my ADSL line either...

I tried everything I could think of whilst the technician was still around - hard reset my 5102 & changed telephone cables, nothing I try gets it to synch, and the error message in the log is always the same:
netMakeChannDial: err=-3001
whatever that means - presumably that it couldn't synch bcos the beast broke something at the Olivedale exchange...

The technician also told me that there have been major problems at the Olivedale exchange - apparently they tried a bunch of ADSL upgrades to 4Mbits/s but the exchange couldn't handle it or something [presumably ATM issues], and the solution was allegedly to downgrade a lot of ADSL lines, now I'm wondering if those downgrades included messing around with existing 384kbits/s DSLAM port cards...
