How much did you spend on your htpc/streaming setup?

Most of my expenditure is on hard drives as my media server is my old re-purposed Q9550 desktop PC with a HBA shoved into it. Really neglected it though and the drives are probably reaching their end of life. Just spent a bunch of money on a new PC so it's going to have to work for a while longer.

All in all though I haven't spent much at all on this PC, I think the 2TB were around R550 each when I bought them (before the great flooding of 2011).

Such a devastating event for Seagate and WD that they haven't managed to bring their drives back to the same prices in 5 years.
 
I think my initial HP was around R8,000 for the HP Microserver, GFX card, IR reciever, 3 x 2TB, 1 x SSD and extra RAM.

Got home after 2 years and it was dead :( So bought a new HP and GFX card at R4,000.00 and transferred the drives/receiver.

don't feel too bad for them...they turned in crazy profits over that period. The flood created somewhat of a boom for them.

Feel bad for them?? Are you mad? It was the best thing that ever happened to them. I remember at the time people were highly suspicious of the way they responded to it, and now that I think about it, it's been 5 years and they are still roughly the same prices. Miighty suss if you ask me.

:confused:...why did you call it a devastating event?

they've definitely been keeping prices artificially off their downward trend for a couple years because of that.

edit: oh, you were being sarcastic. :o
