Hi Guys,
I was trying to figure out what 3gb actually means. So how fast can I theoretically burn through that on a Telkom best offer 512k account?
As I (who sucks at maths) work it :
3 gigabytes =
gigabits 24
megabytes 3072
megabits 24576
kilobytes 3145728
kilobits 25165824
So I can (Theoretically) Transfer 25165824 kilobits in a month. At 512 kilobits a second this would take me 49152 seconds to accomplish. (819.2 minutes, 13.65 hours).
So if I use the Telkom ADSL to it's rated capacity, I will be capped in half a day.
So we buy half a days worth of Internet which we have to spread it out over 30 days? More than this is considered abuse? Hell, I'd rather be the seller than the buyer in this transaction.
But thats not all.
I also get 256k upstream. If that was going flat out, it would reduce the time by a third. So that reduces it to 9.14 hours. Ok, still call it half a day.
Of course these are theoretical numbers. In the real worls you probably won't be able to blow your 30 days allowance in less than a day (but only just). And these are at the rated speeds, which are very slow in comparison to, well almost everyone else.
Please feel free to point out the almost inevitable flaws in my calculations
