Hmm. Human race. Tricky definition. Are we talking the pure Homo Sapien man that originated in Africa, or the one that cross bred with European Homo-Neanderthal man? So much for the purity of the Race. :whistle:

The timescales involved are so vast - it boggles the mind. The bit that gets me is that the time that passed between the existence of the Triceratops and the T-Rex more than the time that has passed between the T-Rex and Modern Man.

A quick google:

The earliest fossils of anatomically modern humans are from the Middle Paleolithic, about 200,000 years ago such as the Omo remains of Ethiopia and the fossils of Herto sometimes classified as Homo sapiens idaltu.

Sub-Saharan Africans actually have more archaic admixture. The difference is that it came not from Neanderthals but from archaic groups within Africa. About 13% of the sub-Saharan gene pool comes from an earlier expansion of pre-modern hominins that occurred c. 111,000 years ago and seems to correspond to the entry of Skhul-Qafzeh hominins into the Middle East (Watson et al., 1997.............

Human remains depend upon funerary rights and practices.
Most ancient cultures burned their dead, then scattered the bone fragments and ash.
In Tibet up until the early part of the 20th century, sky burials were the common practice (body is hacked to pieces then left for the animals)
Very few people were actually buried, embalmed or intermed, that was really only done for individuals of high social standing, and only in certain cultures.

Consider the last ice age, and the vast amounts of land that were above sea level at the time:

One can clearly see that the amount of land lost was immense, civilizations, cultures, cities and ports could easily have been lost with absolutely no knowledge or evidence of them ever even existing.

Analysis suggests genetic mixing occurred in Africa around 35,000 years ago.

The authors say that up to 2% of the genomes of some modern African populations may originally come from a closely related species.

Hammer and his colleagues argue that roughly 2% of the genetic material found in these modern African populations was inserted into the human genome some 35,000 years ago. They say these sequences must have come from a now-extinct member of the Homo genus that broke away from the modern human lineage around 700,000 years ago.

Hammer says this disproves the conventional view that we are descended from a single population that arose in Africa and replaced all other Homo species without interbreeding.
