How soon will we hear the official November pricing structure? And is local definitely going to be capped?
 
I dunno dewd. Pessimistically, I'd say somewhere around 5th November :P

Would be swell to know though wouldn't it? :)
 
Probably when you've gone 30 gigs over your cap (and you have to pay R60 for each gig !)
 
It will begin on November 1...

No ISP will back bill for ADSL bandwidth as far as I know.. You buy what you want/need and that is it..
 
I obviously do not speak on behalf of the other dsl providers - but we should be announcing our new pricing structure sometime in September.
 
it would be nice to know the new prices/priceing structure as soon as possable, so that we can start bitching and preparing :(

I just don't think the margins are there to accept the risk to back charge clients.. It is hard enough to get payments in advance to arrive on time..

The only exception would be for clients that have other services such as lease lines and the ADSL is a secondary service..
 
paarlberg, but backcharging would help a lot of us, and for one I would be willing to put in a deposit of some sort to make you guys feel better.

not sure but let's say on signup I put down a refundable deposit of R1000 ??? and then I can D/L as needed an you guys just charge me at end of each month. And if you really paranoid don't let me download past R1000 usage ....
 
and gigs bought but not used should be carried over the next month!!!
 
f#ck it , if the new pricing comes in I am canning DSL. BOTTOM LINE!!!!!! And screw SA's internet future, this country is so rediculously dismal its pathetic!
 
They'll keep it going with the Business ADSL. We had 1 128K lease line, now we have 4 ADSL 512 lines, it's still cheaper. When the new pricing comes in. It will still be cheaper. For home users/small business it will be bad news. For medium/large businesses it will just be a bigger tax write off.

I will stay with Axxess if they remain cost competite in the market.

They treated me well when they could offer 30GB accounts.

Their attitude towards service differs substantially from Telkom's: Telkom needs days to activate a new Bandwidth account. Axxess did it in almost no time.
 
Has anyone received any official notification from Telkom that the 1st November per gig system is going to happen?

Another thing I don't get - which part of the new structure will stop the 30GB ISPs from offering their service? How is the service offered at the moment? What will change?
 
I thought Telkom had to release the new prices and these have to be approved by ICASA before they are official?
 
Good point. And last I heard, ICASA were pushing them to LOWER their prices, not the opposite.
 
Can someone please tell me exactly what this entitles? I'm still waiting for my ADSL, and want to know how this will affect me. Where can I read more about the price changes?

it will affect you if u intend on downloading more than 3 gigs in a month, if u dont then it would work out cheaper for you afaik
