Hi all,

Could anyone please tell me how to activate GPRS on a prepaid mtn sim-card?

I have the gprs settings but trying to connect I get an error: "gprs deactivated"

I spent at least half an hour trying to register on their pathetic web-site, but the stupid thing never gets farther than step 2 (type this code in your phone)..
Then I spent 41 minutes holding on customer care before finally giving up..

I'm only trying mtn anyway cause they have prepaid data bundles..

Mtn you suck!!!

As soon as I've used up my airtime, I'm going right back to vodacom (where I've been for more than 5 years)

Yes... even though in the starter pack booklet it says to do *123*,
I figured it had to be *123#...

The settings arrived fine and installed no problem, but wap is not working...

No.. :(

I have all those settings exactly like that...

It just won't connect, I think the APN needs to be activated on the sim...
But how ?

I had the same problem when I first ever tried to connect with vodacom's gprs,
all I had to do was dial a number (1028 I think) and follow the prompts,
press x to activate gprs on your sim ... and there you go, was very easy.

I'm sure I could get this to work if I could register on mtn's site...
It goes like this:

Step 1. Enter your number...
I do that click next..

Step 2: Type this code in your phone: XXXX
I do that, and the web page updates and says "processing..."

I've tried about 10 times but it never gets further than that.. even after 10 minutes of "processing" :(

redarrow, I had exectly the same problems, except that I had waiting times of up to three hours before giving up contacting customer care.
For the record, you can activate GPRS on the SIM by dialing *123*13# and waiting for the settings to arrive. They do not have to be installed. Then switch off and on again.
