How to stop base station hopping?

there is almost never any reason to connect to any basestation but your best one.

The whole idea behind iburst is mobility and therefore it must be able to seemlessly switch to the the strongest base station.

However they should allow you to be able to switch off this feature and manually choose your base station.

They probably didn't do this because this makes maintainance of towers harder, at present they can turn off a tower and most ppl will stay connected.

End point: This is not going to change just face it.

You can use an arial and my app to detect and fix the hopping btw.

A valid point yes, by rights they should then provide a fix for this i.e. the hand-over process should be transparent, IP should stay the same etc.. but it doesn't happen because the stupid modem drops the connection and then re-authenticates which takes anything from 10 seconds to several minutes. Getting them to fix this is, as you said, futile. I've been trying since early 2006 already, I even wrote to Kyocera in Japan, less than enthusiastic response received.

I am well aware that the hopping is fixed with an antenna, but for some I am sure this is not practical and incurs additional unwanted expense, tell that to a customer who has had good service and then suddenly the thing is iffy and now he has to fork out for an antenna. I have one such customer, they were not impressed no matter how I explained it to them.
