Hi,

I'm knew to this stuff so...

I just got a Nokia 6330 which supports Edge & 3G but the question is, how do you use it, and how can you confirm that you are using it?

The only time I have seen 3G on my phone is when I was in the underground parking and did not have a normal signal.

I know that when I connect using GPRS via my phone, I dial *99# are there other numbers like that which should be used and do I need to get a new sim card.

I did a speed test on telkomsa.net and found I am only connecting at normal modem dialup speeds although my current connection says 460Kbps.

what cell network are you on dude? try install this app on your 6630 :

http://www.symbian-freak.com/quides/netmon.htm

that way you will be able to give us more info about your connection.

Couple of things : MTN dont offer 3G yet, so if you are on the MTN network you will only be using GPRS, GPRS Plus, or EGPRS (EDGE). This app will tell you the details of what is available on the base station that you are connected to...
Lets take it from there... Get the app installed and we will explain here how to interpret the data!

Your phone will support GPRS anywhere on the network.

The 460 kbps is most likely if you are using bluetooth and describes the speed of that connection, not the network connection.

If you are in an EDGE site you should get speeds higher. If you do the ftp speed test I have described somewhere on the forum how to change tcp/ip if you want to allow faster file download speeds. If you have cell broadcast switched on and you see Y'ello Broadband you should get the faster EDGE speeds automatically in that cell.

You could easily pick up 3G signals as the 3G network is live for the testing. It is not intended that you could log onto 3G.

When we do go commercial with 3G you will automatically gain access without having to change anything at all.

I advise ensuring updated 6630 software if you do plan to use 3G. I will be commenting more on this in say two weeks time.

bbmatt - you feel like searching your cache????

Sorry - couldn't find anything - went back 5 days and it seems I didn't catch this topic. I browse the forum using the "New Posts" feature, so I would normally pick it up.

Problem is, as soon as you link up to the same page "live" in your browser, whatever else may have been in your cache from days back gets overwritten.

Hi... new to this forum, and to the whole data over mobile networks. Just recently purchased a Nokia 6630. From reading the other posts I gather that most ppl are using PC's connected to their phones to browse. I mainly browse from my phone, using Opera. I installed the Netmon app, now can someone help with all the numbers that pop up?

Hi Sparky

Welcome to the forum!

You can check out this topic. It links to a manual that you can download that explains everything.

How do I get 3G activated ?

Hi What Apps can i download for my Nokia 6680? to receive video calls here? MTn Network.

To make a video call you just use the standard features on the 6680. You don't have to download anything first.
