Hi,

I have recently acquired an i-Mate and am having difficulty in setting up the WAP, BlueTooth interface. I have sms'ed MTN for the WAP and e-mail connection settings and I consistently receive tht my i-Mate is unable to receive over-the-air configuration sms's.

If anyone is able to rpovide any assitance with this, then please.

Thank you,

Sean

Imate

Actually it's pretty simple...
(assuming u want GPRS)
go to start, settings, connections tab, connections icon.
Under new isp, add new modem connection.
Leave the default name, change the modem to Cellular Line (GPRS). Next.
Access point name is "internet" in lowercase without inverted commas. Next & Finish.
Go to manage existing connections & make sure your new connection is selected as default.
The real bonus of this imate thing is the wireless modem option. U can turn it into a wireless modem with GPRS - great for those with a notebook PC on the move. U need a driver. PM me if u need it.
When looking for support online for the imate, it is often called Himalaya, O2 pda2k, qtek 2029 among other things.
Also, don't get sucked into installing the Windows 2005 upgrade - some built in features don't work after upgrading, the only really nice improvement is the landscape option, otherwise 2003 is better.
Cheers

p.s. i hope u weren't conned into getting one from Telkom...?

If you are using the iMate PDA2K, I would suggest that you use nothing older than the following revision of Firmware:
ROM version: 1.40.00 WWE
ROM date: 03/10/05
Radio version: 1.12.00
Protocol version 1337.42
ExtROM version: 1.40.176 WWE
(The above solved most of my issues)

I agree...

I am using:
Rom ver 1.72.00 WWE
ROM date 03/15/04
Radio version: 1.14.00
Protocol version:1337.24
ExtROM: 1.17.800

dbnnet - I am interested in the date of your apparently older rom... look at mine... weird...

Ed ... I presume you are not using the EMEA regional version.
This is the best bug free one I know of for use in SA, and
downloadable from www.clubimate.com

I think that each vendor (i.e. T.Mobile) are using their own version number sequence.

I had an iMate to test for a while and I noticed the GPRS authenication settings were wrong by default. The correct setting is CHAP authentication, but it was set to PAP which did not work.

I think this is in the Settings, Connection, GPRS Authtication screen.

The default and correct setting is PAP.
(I've never had any problems with PAP either).
I've also confirmed this with the importers/agents Leaf Wireless.

I've got the exact save versions on my i-mate pocket pc phone edition. I've been using the device for over a year now and used GPRS from day 1.

My device syncs with my company Exchange server every 30 minutes.

I have not had any problems with GPRS since I started using this device.

I use the .CAB file I downloaded from leafwireless.com a year ago to configure the GPRS and MMS settings. I've got this .CAB file on a SD card so if something happens and I lose all my information on my i-mate (this happened once when I let the battery and backup battery run down) it is as simple as running the .CAB file and letting my i-mate sync with my Exchange server. 10 minutes later I had all my contacts, calander and e-mails.

I did have a couple of issues with bluetooth that is all resolved now. Most of the issues were related to WinXP pre SP2.

I initialy was under the impression that you had to start the "Wireless Modem" application on the i-mate for the notebook to be able to connect via the i-mate. This I found out my accident, is not nessasary.

Download the CAB file from leafwirless and copy the cab file onto your imate, then you find the cab file with your file explorer and then tap on the file and it will extract and install by itself.

Thanx

Hi all,

Well, I have to say thank you for all the response threads to my issues. I have subsequently downloaded the .CAB file from leaf, and will install it this evening.

I do however have another question. Is it possible to perform an ActiveSync with Lotus Notes and NOT outlook. Outlook, I use on my home PC, but I would rather prefer if I could Sync this with my work thinkpad, and we use Notes instead......

I have always used a Palmtop M130 before and that I found great for doing this, but the mere greatness of fucntionality of my i-Mate outweighs any option of going back to using the old, 'junior' Palmtop.

Many Thanx,

Sean

GPRS problems - Vodacom

I have an PDA2k and downloaded from leaf the config file, but still get an error saying "No modem at this number...."

Any ideas?

Vodacom?

Sorry... MTN this side... try the Voda forum... The settings are pretty simple, as far as I know, you may only need a Voda specific APN - look at my earliest post in this thread and substitute `internet' with whatever Voda use...
