Hi Fella's,

Does anyone know if you can use an ibook to play network games against people who are playing on an XP/2000 based network?

Do most games run on macs?

reason i'm asking is because a collegue of mine is about to get an iBook and he wants to join the carnage.

We used to play Soldier of Fortune 2 but are now considering playing CS/Halflife (Will this work?)

Thanks

Borris

Doubtful, games usually need to be written specifically for the mac. Warcraft 3 was released for the mac, and that's the only game I can think of right now.

I am affraid he might be let down in that department. There are tons of games for the MAC (some brilliant!) but most of the windows stuff won't run on it.

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated.

Antowan: Do you know if a game written for (& running on a) mac will 'see' the same game written for windows (running on a PC)?

It shouldn't be a problem as long as they're both talking TCP/IP but certainly a good idea to check the game manufacturer's website.

If it is the same game, there is no reason why not... [:D]

America's Army is a good contender if you are looking for a cool MAC playable multiplayer game! http://www.americasarmy.co.za or http://www.americasarmy.com

Cheers

There are plenty of people playing on the local servers, you just need to find the right ones. The best at the moment and probably for a long time to come are those hosted by MWEB. During peak times you are likely to find 20-30 people playing, even off peak you get a lot off international cannon fodder playing. At the moment I don't think any of the other local servers are worth playin on

MWEB 1 196.2.128.102
MWEB 2 196.2.128.103

MWEB 1 is always on bridge
MWEB 2 rotates through a number of maps but if you want a new map just ask an admin if they are playing or log into irc and ask, there is usually an admin or 3 floating around

To jump straight into them, open the console, by pressing ` (to the left of the 1) and type "open 196.2.128.102" press enter and it will take you straight there without having to go in the ingame browser

irc details:

Server: za.shadowfire.org
Channel: #americasarmy.co.za

The MWEB servers have a comprehensive set of Punkbuster scripts running to try and catch any cheats, so if you log in and get kicked out, it is probably because your punkbuster is not up to date. Go to www.evenbalance.com or www.americasarmy.co.za to get the updates.

They are also running in high physics mode, which means that they accurately model things such as richochets, and also means you don't have to empty a whole magazine into some one to take them down

Anyway hope to see some of you guys online soon

Hooohaaah
