Anyone out their using iburst to voip on skype or freshtel. How successful have you been. Voip is obviously very ping dependant and as i understand on iburst your ping is variable depending on signal strength but has anyone got it working well??

Another one do you get a "cooling off" period once signed up on the contract. What happens if i take it home and its crap how long do i have to return the modem and cancel?? Also if i take the 2 yrs contract and decide at the end of the "test" period it is not for me can i cancel?? Thanks anyone with any ideas much appreciated

Daveogg, Wbs/iBurst they have a 7days grace period wereby you can buy the device/modem and if you are not happy with it within that period you can return it for a full refund :D

Native, that is not entirely accurate, [post=154804]here is the horse's mouth[/post], and my interpretation is that if you buy your UTD or UTC (i.e. "the modem") outright, and take the 30 day notice contract, then you will not be able to return the UT within 7 days.

There was a 7 day return period if you signed a 2 year contract, I assume that is still the case, but maybe that has changed, just like WBS now charging a R456 "activation fee" where there was no fee before.

Seven Day Cancellation

I think that comment applies outside the seven day period. I do not recall a difference between the up front purchase/hire purchase options in the pre-printed contract in as far as the seven day period was concerned. The clause simply provided for a seven day period for cancellation for reasons acceptable to WBS. As always, YMMV and you should confirm before signing!

Yes well things change, who knows what the printed conditions look like, the contract I signed did not have any printed Ts&Cs- it was emailed to me as a .pdf, it only stated the contract period, and said that the Ts&Cs were on iBurst.co.za - at the time they weren't on that site. Is the 24 month contract I signed actually legal, hope I don't need to challenge it, I am relatively happy with iBurst - ATM.

The difference between signing the e-mailed/faxed version and the dead tree version at the Radio Park office... The dead tree version had the terms and conditions printed on the back.

Well, at no point was I given any Ts&Cs to look at, and the contract I signed referred to their website, IMO, WBS would have a tough time proving that the Ts&Cs were on their website the moment the contract was signed, and an even tougher time trying to prove what they said (especially since I couldn't find them the day I signed the contract). Check the worry in my eyes!

Dave, I tried Skype yesterday and it worked very well, with only minor "fading in and out" of volume sometimes. Was talking to another Skype user, so I'm not sure how it will be to a landline, but overall I was impressed.

I've been using Skype for the past two days as well and it's been running like a dream! I was actually quite impressed.

Skye is very well written app. It will work perfectly on a 56 Dialup. My experiences with skype and i-Burst have always been good.

A buddy of mine in the Uk pays about 0.1p (tenth of a pence) for 1 minute of "land line pstn time".
He has phoned me a couple time on my telkom line. Works nicely. Thats 11c/min for an international call......? WTF....not fair

The best thing is making a phone call while sticking it to Telkom. It makes me so happy. w000t

Its cheaper to phone South African Cell phones from Skype than from a Telkom Line. Go Figure

If the Euro $ exchange is under R8 that is.

Local Telkom to Local Cell Phone = R1.86 per minute
Skypeout to Local Cell Phone = R1.76 per minute (R8 to Euro$1)

Local calls don't work out cheaper. 57cents a minute. Although soon enough it will be if Telkom keeps getting away with price increases.
