I’ve recently moved into a new house and I was not it the mood to start all over with telkom so I decided to get iburst. So far it works pretty well. Websites open in a flash, downloads are much faster than with dsl. But I have one or two problems.

1)How do I get information to display on the iburst dashboard? I use the desktop modem (iburst access bridge) and I connect it to my PC with a network cable instead of the USB cable. The dashboard says I have no modem installed even though it connects to the internet without problems. So my iburst dashboard is dead with no info being displayed but my connection works fine. I’ve tried to connect it with the USB cable but can’t get it working like that. I run windows vista 64 and I think there might be some drivers problems there.
2)How to I setup my modem that it connects automatically to the net if I start up. Like a normal DSL telkom modem/router. At the moment I have to open the dashboard and connect to the internet “dial-up style”.
3)Lastly and more seriously although my connection works great I have problems with one or two websites. During the last week I have not been able to open websites like amazon.com or facebook.com. While loading those sites I can open say blizzard.com or tomshardware.com and they would load in a flash. Any other settings that might help?

Hope someone can help because the iburst support (and documentation) is not that great…

Welcome to the forum...

I would suggest you stay clear of the crappy iBurst dashboard software, check your usage here https://helpdesk.wbs.co.za/webpopup/usage.html or https://helpdesk.wbs.co.za/index.html.

You do need to initiate the connection, so the only option is to place the connection dialler in your start-up menu. The purchasing of a router will solve this issue and will also provide much needed firewall protection.

Ensure your MTU is set to 1352 - iBurst‘s upstream providers are currently experiencing DOS attacks, therefore the issues with some sites, or so they say.

iBurst support in non-existent welcome to iBurst support - this forum - best to familiarise yourself with all the issues you will be experiencing... Search the forum.

Can you use the dashboard software on Ethernet?

It might be USB only, but it isn't essential anyway, you can just go ahead and delete it. :)

Well then that was his problem..

I've just been busy lately, and thinking about ADSL, I've got a few posts in those sections now :p

Sorry but i'm not too big a expert with these things.

First of all, so you I can totally rid myself from this *** iburst software? How do I connect then if the Ib dashboard contains my username and password. I connect using straight ethernet (no router).

Where do you acctually change the mtu setting?

Yes, you just make a Windows dial-up connection to store your username and pass. The same way you would make a dial up connection, just chose the PPP broadband with a pasword option.

You usually set the MTU setting on your router, if you aren't using one then get a program called Dr.TCP and change it from there.

Thats a joke!!!!! Michael has helped many ibursters that have had problems so I'd hardly call him "negative".

If you feel so badly about taking a dig at anyone try me as I'm REALLY negative about the company that runs iburst.

1) The problem is iburst doesnt have driver support for vista 64bit only 32 bit sp USB wont work hence dashboard wont work ;)
2) Get a router :)

Ouch and I thought most of my posts were candid & constructive, silly me.

On a more serious note, ubercal – Point taken.

I will make a concerted effort to restrain my protest and frustration, that is directed at our ISP and instead focus on solving the challenges that are presented.
