We seriously need to take a stand here! iBurst has successfully choked every sort of download method there is from torrents to DC++. All they want are happy little browsers who simply do online banking. The truth of the matter is that you might not even get that right!

I have had repeatedly begged them to fix my email problem. My emails continually fail to send. I have tried everything from increasing timeout settings, tweaking registry, setting MTU's to getting them to allow me to send via a third party smtp service as opposed to theirs and none of this works. I know its their crappy service since I can use any other ISP (3G, ADSL, etc...) on the same machine and settings and it works fine! THEY HAVE FAILED TO PROVIDE!

I have had numerous problems with their accounts dept as has everyone else. I currently have a statement that makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever and have received no help from them! Again FAILED!

Their pricing is now ridiculous and they seem not to care, despite the fact that they choke and shape your bandwidth. An ADSL line currently cost R152 monthly + the line rental which is R111 - so thats R263. 10GB Local only costs R69 while other 1Gb packages cost R89. You do the math even if I buy a 1Gb account for international browsing and then hammer some local downloads over night on the other account, I'm still going to pay R421 for a whopping 11Gb. Subscribe to ADSL this month and you'll even get a free modem - unlike iBursts horrific modem pricing! I currently pay R469 for 1.5Gb. Dont be fooled by the whole iBurst is softcapped thing. Its slower than dialup and your emails will not work! I have muscle fatigue in my fingers from having to press the "go" button 10-20 times per link. It seems if you dont then iBurst doesn't take your http request seriously. Google sites DIE! Like analytics, Gmail, sitemaps and adwords are non-existent on iburst. These are what keep my business going. How does one run a web design business with service like this. iBurst is not new to the world but search the net for iburst - you'll find that Australia has uncapped iBurst but you pay for the different connection speeds available. iBurst here are greedy and incompetent providing only a BAD AND FAILED service.

Gaming is out of the question even with full bandwidth. Peer to peer traffic (like sharing files, VOIP and gaming) accounts for 60% of traffic on networks according to statistics. How can iBurst deny and actively shape the bandwidth of such users to such an extreme that they leave? Some ISPs have failed because of this. Sites like http://www.ihaterogers.ca/ will testify to that. We need to warn the public and complete sites like http://www.iburstsucks.co.za/

I also live in an area where they promised to boost signal and haven't. Living in a big well known suburb surrounded by signal but I am in a dead zone?!

I'm now moving to ADSL - goodbye iBurst! :)

The past week or two has seen quite a few "new faces" popping in here airing their views about this incompetent company.

Many of these new threads tell volumes about the problems people are having yet iburst continues down the road to total failure.

the_anomaly, once you get ADSL you will wonder why you even bothered with the company that is running iburst.

I still believe is a good system, just a pity it's been run by unqualified greedy incompetent idiots.

I bothered with them because where I lived, I couldn't get ADSL due to Telskam's ****.

Where I live now I still can't get a phone line. Sorry I cannot handle the downtime

adsl > iburst

I used to be a very happy iburst subscriber until about this time last year. What really bothered me, and ultimately persuaded me to go adsl was.

1. Frequent network failures on iburst
2. Slow speeds most of the time
3. All my buddies on adsl were raving each time Telkom dropped prices, while iburst never had any cost reductions
4. Iburst was unusable in summer months when it rained frequently.

I took the plunge and got adsl, never looked back since.

Well I'm going to move over to ADSL as soon as our contract comes to an end. I have found a way to live without using torrents for now, but they have one very disgustipated customer here.

I don't know why but it seems every wireless provider I give a chance to turns to ****. iBurst is kinda like Sentech #2... it's a typical South African company, where they treat their customers like they hate them. Customer service does not exist in SA, you have to BEG for a company to give you the honour of allowing you to pay them money for overpriced stuff.

Ah well. It's just another great reason to emigrate... can't wait. No police, no petrol, no real service companies, no decent people in government, ...

iBurst is exploiting the fact that the computer literacy rate in SA is about 50%. I am working in a company with about 50 computer users and the advance to professional level is only 1 to 2 users. If more people read what I am reading we will definitely not buy iBurst.
iBurst is overloading their exiting infrastructure, selling substandard services to SA consumers, to finance their business expansion

We need to step up the effort to inform the public and use it as a tool against cooperation’s that think they can get into consumers pockets by misleading them. The MyADSL Website don’t even feature when you do a iBurst search in Google, how can this be improved.
We need to consolidate the failures of iBurst in one thread for users to be informed.
We need to use our emails, using a consolidated summary of iBust failures.

Sound like a war on iburst???

Now tell me, what sort of "mass action" do you think you can all impose on iBurst to try and get them to stop denying protocols and all the other **** they do? They'll laugh at you man! They'll probably impose another protocol restriction to punish us, for example, restrict access to GMail or some **** like that.

They don't give a rat's arse about us subscribers, when you realize that, you'll understand you have a choice to go to ADSL

Punish us?!

or example, restrict access to GMail or some **** like that

Dude ... my gmail never worked on iBurst! How can they punish us anymore besides suspending my account?

The war is coming! I plan to post an article in the papers. I bet we could also get a site going like hellkom.co.za against iburst. Unfortunately ibust.co.za is taken - leads to http://www.axxess.co.za/ :D

What next, blowing up iburst towers?

Thats an option, but putting out the word that they have a lot of COPPER in them (even if it's not quite true) should draw the attention of the cable thieves who have been raping eskom and telkom the past few years.:D

MrH ... depends on how you use GMAIL. If you use it as a POP3 and SMTP server, then IBurst have in their infinite wisdom blocked the SSL ports.

Of course .. browser access works fine.

blocked the SSL ports - Are you serious? Thats just messed up.

I'll silently do my protest for now and discourage and prevent any and all possible new clients to steer well clear of Iburst and there lack of competitiveness, throttling.. er choking of ports and general stupidity when it comes to support or billing....

booof.... there goes another potential client of there's....

It amazes me how acompany like this runs, even reads these posts and does nothing about it. Not even a little answer of "we are working on the solution...."

Let's do a full page newspaper add... explaining the downside of iburst..

Since Ed left they have ignored pleas for help in this forum and I doubt very much that they would respond here now with all the "highly upset" customers and ex customers who are likely to flame the first post they make.

Myself been one of the ex customers who only left because of the incompetent way the company was been run.

At least I know Ed was competent since he was wise enough to get out after seeing that he was fighting a losing battle dealing with that company.
