iBurst vs Adsl

fishfly I was wrong on the cap issue and I acknowledged the fact in my previous post. Secondly I have tried moving the antenae to get my sweet spot and this is the best I have.

EkHaatVensters the download manager shows 500 KB/s. I get your point since a 1 megabit line can only transfer a max of 125 KB/s. So either the download manager is talking crap or I am flying and hence should not be complaining :D

Anyway I will try another download manager and see what results I get.

It depends on the area you are located. If you are close to a Iburst base station, you will probably get 100% signal quality, and a connection speed of 1024kb/s. On the other hand, if you're a few kilometers away from the base station, you will get speeds of about 300kb/s to 600kb/s. It all depends. If you want a constant connection, go with ADSL. However, Iburst has the ability to connect faster than ADSL, and you have the freedom of mobility. It's your choice really, but I would recommend Iburst.

I don't know what the rules are for Telkom's ADSL upgrade. But as far as I understand if you have ADSL 1024 you will be upgraded to a 4 Mbps connection. Which IBurst cannot match currently although they can upgrade their network to 8 Mbps if I am not mistaken.

i just ordered iburst should have it by friday i will let you all know what i think, i am currently running IS ADSL

Just remember that as Vensters says, you shouldn't really rely on the app that comes installed with IBurst to give a REALLY good idea of speeds. This is just a vague indication. UTTracestar is better but there are many things that impact speeds and whilst signal is important, it is not the ONLY issue. Tower usage (more users = lower speeds), distance to tower, site that you are pulling data from etc etc. This is why we always test the speeds at our customer's premises first so that they KNOW more or less what speed to expect. In some respects, saying that IBurst sucks when signal is poor is like saying Vodacom sucks when you are in Doersonderwaterfontein where there is no signal and your phone doesn't work. Bottom line: IBurst with bad signal is horrible, IBurst with good signal is great. If you want to use IBurst, make sure you fit into the latter category. But remember that there are VAYS UND MEENS to improve signal such as antennas, external housings for modems etc. So if you are stuck with bad signal, get in touch to sort this out. Better yet, get in touch BEFORE you get IBurst so that you have an idea what you are letting yourself in for...
