iBurst vs. HomeDSL 384?!

Yup. I've been with them for a whole 9 days, and I was a sucker to sign the contract. What type of penalties am I looking at for cancelling? Their service is pathetic!

Don't they have some sort of cool-off clause?

Surely you must be able to cancel the contract within 30 days, pay 1 month subscription and hand back the modem.

If not, then the contract is REALLY one sided

The thing is, I signed up without even reading the contract as it was not on their site :/ . Can anyone clear the penalty issue for me? Thanks louisp for the info.

Thanks for all the replys people. Decided that I'll wait another year or two for broadband in SA :p . Neither iBurst not ADSL're worth it. I think I'll stick with my analogue line, possibly consider ISDN or a leased line if I really need a 24/7 connection :rolleyes:

What makes you think that? Most likely they'll dump all the capped users onto the same so-called 64K link with contention so bad that it'll be useless. Just like Telkom. I'd love to be corrected on this but wbs has been silent so far about how their cap will work so I'm not being too hopeful about it.
 
fergus, I agree, and it's yet another reason why people need to look to a company other than WBS for a broadband solution. I should add that WBS would very likely find themselves being sued by customers if the 64Kbps after cap was in fact contended - it is stated as 64Kbps & no contention is mentioned (at least not on my contract anyways).
 
A friend asked someone at WBS over the phone about the 64k thing and the answer he received is that there should be little or no contention. I don't know how much this is worth, considering what I've read about the stories WBS tells, but there's some info.....

Yeah you're right, WBS have kept a little too quiet about the cap. I think one things for certain - the rumours about them keeping it uncapped are definately not true :mad: .
 
yeah that cap scares me, but I can't ever go to something like 384 adsl, I'm sorry but 30KBps and the same cap?? I am already used to 1mbit so the only way I'll jump ship is if something comes along with better numbers (ie bigger than 1mbit or more than 3gb a month)
 
But slimothy, if your downloading at say 80k per second as opposed to 30k per second, the only time you'll really notice it is for large file sizes.

Large files sizes = eat your 3gig cap away.

The iBurst speed thus becomes a total farce.

Let me tell you, on 384ADSL, this site loads so fast I don't see it happening - so, it's loading at 30k per second, would I really notice that much difference if it loaded at 80k per second ?

IF iBurst decided not to implement the 3gig cap (which obviously they won't), then sure, your arguments about the speed would be relevant.

I be honest here and say that if iBurst could provide a service as stable as Telkom at the same price with the same cap I would jump ship immediately. It doesn't mean I'd be happy with the situation, just that I'd rather not use Telkom if I could help it.
 
i dont download at 80k a second, i download at 130 - 140, which is closer to double the figure you described. I use the internet for work (where i gotta transfer files 50MB+ all the time) and to do that at 30k now would seem too slow. I havent seen a cap yet, so I dont know hat its going to be like, but I do know that the argument of well 30k means I wont use my cap up as fast sounds feeble to me. If I were to think along those lines then I'd be happy to be on soemthign as slow as dial up with no cap.
