iBurst with Ubuntu Linux (SOLVED)

**SOLVED, SEE SOLUTION BELOW**

Hello,

I decided it was time to explore Linux. I installed Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Dapper Drake on a spare laptop. Was very easy and quick. I am a total noob when it comes to Linux (so pls bear that in mind).

The wireless and wired networking works great under Ubuntu. I have iBurst (PCMCIA card) I use with my other laptop for when I am out and about.

What I would like to do is use iBurst with my Linux box so I can leave my win XP machine at home. I have searched these threads and it seems you can use iBurst with Linux with some fiddling (all sounds very complicated). Does anyone know of an HOW-TO for complete novices? Will installing iBurst leave my other network connections unaffected?

Many thanks.

**UPDATE - SOLVED**

OK, after trawling through web pages I am now typing this from my Ubuntu powered laptop using iBurst.

It was actually fairly straightforward. Follow this tutorial:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MobileWirelessBroadband

Word of advice, do not follow the README that comes with the iburst drivers (in the tar ball that you download), and don't use the built-in PPPOE dialler that is pre-installed in Ubuntu, use the recommended dialler in the above link.

Good luck, and remember if a total noob like me who has been using linux for 7 days can get this to work then anyone can...

Regards

hey doc_msk

hows your iburst ubuntu laptop been treating you??

I installed the pcmcia on my kubuntu laptop a couple of months ago its been amazing,
I dont have a signal monitoring application though.

Are you monitoring signal or download?
I just found eyeburst but couldn't figure out installing it,
do you have any ideas?

many thanks

As a complete noob to Linux to, I also tried this weekend to get my iBurst working.

All I eventually did was completely break the wireless connection to my Access Point, as well as still have no iBurst. I actually follow the instructions from the ibDriver README.

But now that I have found this thread, and read the community help, I'll be giving it a bash this evening.

Lets hope this works.

Cheers

I'mstill Baffled

I'mvery keen to try Ubuntu and have version 7 loaded, but the installation of the drivers to runmy USB modem has me stumped. Can Ubuntu access Windows folders? I plan to download the driver using Windows XP to a specific folder, I then reboot with Ubuntu and open terminal. What happens then? Sorry guys, I'm not good with this,so can someone provide me with step-by-stem instructions that I can understand please?
