I'm really saddened by this uncompetitive rip-off service - I expected more, but alas, it was not to be.

So, I'll go out and pretty tell everyone that iBurst is useless with it's current offerings and I guess I could influence a good 50 people to rather stick with ADSL or keep thier dial-up until competition finally does happen.

I'm thinking that if 20 people from these forums also tell people to steer clear of iBurst, that's a potential 1000 customers lost !

How stupid - but, iBurst will soon realise that.

Here's an offering we could live with :-

* 5gig International cap, after which 64kbps speeds
* NO local cap
* NO traffic shaping
* ALL ports and protocols supported
* R1500 modem cost
* R800 a month

Now that is decent competition and will get you more customers = more money.

Catch a WAKE-UP iBurst !
If you offer this kind of competiton, I'll go out and tell 50 people that iBurst is great and 20 other people from these forums will do the same and you'll gain a potential 1000 customers.

How more obvious can it get ?

The package as described above, R650 or less - including modem rental. Since everybody like to compare SA internet to the rest of the world, allow me to give you my take on this. Most of the surfing done here in the USA is all local bandwith, therefore you can have lots of bandwith for cheap-cheap. In SA it is different, geographically we are freaking far from where all the action is and the local usefull content that is actually hosted in SA is for all practical purposes non existant. Taking that into consideration I'm willing to pay twice (R210 x 2) what I pay here for my 3Mb cable line PLUS an added 50% for hidden costs e.g. lining the pockets of the corrupt people who will be providing a 1/3 of the same service.

Like with the computer market in general, it is gamers that drive the industry and everybody demands the fastest machines and low latency internet, well I don't. I only surf the web and download the occasional illeagel software, therefore route my internet via satelite and cut cost to give me R650 internet cause it is do-able.

that's just my opinion.

BTW, this topic is starting to overlap the iBurst pricing topic in this forum.

My point is the loss of a customer base from the outset.

I'm sure that someone at iBurst visits forums like this - at least, I would hope so, because it basically free research into what people want.

I'm simply saying that if you provide TRUE competition and not just the same as everyone else, then your business model will fair a lot better.

Put a little more money into the service (IOW, buying more bandwidth) and offer something the competition isn't. This will reward you with a larger customer base, resulting in increased profits.

Word of mouth is an incredibly powerful tool if used effectively, unfortunately, iBurst don't seem to realise that they are not offering an attractive product, but quite simply "more of the same"

We don't want "more of the same"

I'm willing to pay a slightly higher price for a better service and what I would like is realistic and achievable given the current state of telecomms in this country.

But if the product launches in it's current form - essentially 'castrated' - word of mouth will be negative and iBurst will not get off to a good start.

I can only hope they will listen to reason and read the posts on this forum. I've read a lot of very valuable info here from some very gifted IT people - iBurst be wise to do the same.

Agreed bb_matt, simple Business 101. The only reason I can think of for them offering the same as Telkom is that somehow Telkom has its finger in the works... wouldn't surprise me. With the current offering I have no reason to give up ISDN, however I will change over if WBS re-work their packages to be a bit more appealing.

Yes, that's a good point - I guess they have a finger in the works by default anyway, but it may also be a simple profit issue, albiet not a particularly good one.

By "turning off" potential users, you loose profit.

I don't know what other sort of a "spanner in the works" Telkom could put into iBursts offering, aside from exorbitant bandwidth costs ?

From what I understand quite a few WBS support staff do read these forums - I can only hope that they do pass this on to management.

R300/mo, 10GB int'l cap, 50GB local, no port shaping. Easily done once Telkom is overthrown, and that time is coming quicker than we all think.

Spot on Mad. I'd be thrilled with a package like that.

id be thrilled with a package without portshaping and no cap

you guys... you think by increasing a cap is a step in the right direction... your ass probably got raped so much already you think a smaller projectile up there is an improvement?!
