If anyone is interested it seems the wbs servers support imap. Haven't tried it but the port is up and returning what looks like courier imap data.

I stopped using my IMAP accounts when the cap was implemented - too much bandwidth overhead...:(...and probably exactly what WBS want - us using their IMAP server which chows our decapitated bandwidth but doesn't cost WBS a cent...
 
kinda like working in newsgroups. the mail stays on the server, and you download each message as you read it. Its good if you access your email account from multiple services and terminals I suppose.

Wouldnt really use it though
 
On my domain hosting service I have a facility to dump identified spam in a separate folder. IMAP is handy to scan the headers or just delete the spam from the server. Was especially handy on dialup to save on mail download time and bulk.
 
I've found that my GMail accounts - I have many of them now - work very well as a replacement for IMAP - you setup your GMail POP3 settings to "2. When messages are accessed with POP archive GMail's copy" and if you're using Thunderbird you can set that up to automatically BCC your GMail account whenever you send an email...:)

IC, have you been experiencing timeouts to the gmail servers, when using an e-mail client like Outlook?

Yep, but I use Thunderbird1.02 for everything nowadays...

I decided to use the Mozilla Calendar extension for Thunderbird instead of Sunbird...no particular reason / preference, but easier for others that are used to Outlook & having their calendar integrated into their email app...
 
Do the alarms rely on Thunderbird being open?

I know this is a little off-topic, but it could prove useful later.

With the extension for TB? - yes, TB must be running...
