Has anybody worked with Infinite Wireless in Hermanus so far. They offer a 384/512 wireless services installing their own antenna? iwireless.co.za

sounds interesting, but I never trust small ISP's at frist glance. Do some more research. Anybody here have any comments about them? I know of a company in Port Elizabeth that does the same kinda thing, AeroSat I think they are called.

They were apparently rather good, but service went downhill recently... this is according to a friend

I heard lots of good things about them, so don't take them for granted. Them and Snowball are the only real game players in the Hermanus area that I know of.

And what experience do you have with small ISP's to say stuff like this ?

Hi Everyone,

My name is Ryan Goss, I am the Technical Director for Aerosat in Port Elizabeth. I cant say that I read these forums often, however from time to time someone emails me an article and I have a glance at it. I thought it might be high time that we post a few statistics on some random users on our network for your perusal.

Last week our users were unfortunate to experience problems regarding degraded International throughput on our network, caused by a transponder capacity upgrade gone bad. Our upstream peers, when planning further capacity for us, moved us onto a new transponder which gave major hastles. We had to move back to our existing transponder and our circuit was temporarily upgraded on the old transponder. Our users all report that systems are back to normal and that our speeds are better than ever.

Although we do make mention of contention ratios, we do what we can in terms of QOS to ensure that the high priority protocols do flow at a constant rate of 1:1 connectivity. Obviously, for Peer to Peer communication, we contend the home users in a large pool who's capacity is increased during the hours from 7pm to 7am the next morning and over weekends. With proper motivation and after technical deliberation, we are willing to make changes in our QOS (network wide) to accommodate certain protocols requested by users - enhancing the performance of our bandwidth offerings.

We did in the past also experience problems relating to gamers connecting to the SAIX network. We receive our local portion of access via Internet Solutions and due to the fact that their peering link with SAIX became congested, we suffered as well! This has been resolved, yet as a countermeasure and to better the services to our customers, we are in the process of ordering SAIX connectivity for our network and effectively multihoming on the national front.

Should you be interested, I have (an hour ago) prepared a few random samples (static) of customers on our network, to give you an idea of what speeds you can expect on the lines we provide. Obviously, the more you request, the more you'll get (think multiple threads...)

Should you have any further queries about our network, please feel free to contact me at: noc at aerosat dot net.
In the meanwhile, have a look at some of these graphs:
