Intel NUC for graphic design

The key to any Intel NUC is to perform the BIOS updates as soon as they are released. Mine is now on 0048!

I'm using my Windows 8.1 64-bit drivers with Windows 10 Preview Build 9926, absolutely no problems.

I did do the BIOS update.

But the Windows 8.1 64-bit drivers refuse to install on W10, some message about inadequate hardware, which is nonsensical. Must have something to do with the Intel HD 5000.

Edit : Have now been using this the whole evening, started off by streaming the Super Rugby, and am now watching Netflix, this is working really well.

I don't think that I regret buying the i5. Also for the disk space, takes a 500GB mSATA and a 1TB HD.

Now to load iTunes on here, for the occasional iTunes video download.

Anyway, Windows 8.1 works really well, so no issues there.

How much was the Celeron version, and what RAM and HDD did you get?

Lekker looking things :D

/Comparing to an upgraded HP Microserver...

Paid R1912 for Celeron NUC, R499 for G.Skill Ripjaws 4GB SO-DIMM and R749 for a Western Digital Black 500GB 2.5'' HDD.

I had a 24'' Samsung display + Microsoft wireless keyboard & mouse, so basically everything I needed for a desktop computer. :)

I am glad people are discussing this.

looking into buying i5 8gb ram and 128gb msata. this is basically for my office use and then if i want to take home and play a light game or two that is fine.

Been looking at gigabytes version as well.

Has anyone got the gigabyte brix? Any feedback on it?

Not impressed with Intel Network 7260.HMWG WiFi Wireless-AC 7260 H/T Dual Band 2x2 AC+Bluetooth HMC card.

Seems quite limited range in the NUC, am having to use a wifi dongle.

Thanks Jola I see amazon ship these to SA so that is another supplier to consider. Our monitors connect through VGA connections would we also need to get new monitors, or are there convertors?

Graphic Design in 2015 using.... VGA

Mmmm

He said that they were old monitors that they still wanted to use. You could use them with a Mini Displayport to VGA adapter, and then later replace that with a Mini Displayport to DVI, or whatever suits your fancy.

I see that Amazon sells a Mini HDMI to VGA adapter :

So yes, you could connect two VGA screens to the NUC, how well that will work I cannot tell.

There is an Intel Core i7 NUC being released this year, and might come with Intel Iris Pro graphics.

Should be good. :)

Now that would be overkill for my HTPC :D

But maybe for my next desktop ;-)

Hehe...yes, the Intel NUC Celeron is more than good enough.

I also want the i7 as my next desktop, would be fabulous! I reckon I would be able to play StarCraft II : Legacy of the Void on it. :)

Just an update, I bought an energy meter and found that the PCs use less than 200 watts and was also to remeasure this without a UPS as that can use 20%. So for now I will stick with the normal desktops.
