here is a question. im not sure if it has been asked already but I will ask anyway.

why when you buy a pay as you go sim you can make international calls. but on contract you cant and they have the nerve telling me it will cost something like R1500. thats mad for something thats free on a R10 sim card.

is there anyway that I can activate it or make international calls?

It's because it reduces abuse on int calls on cell contracts. It doesnt cost R1500 but they want u to put down a deposit just in case u dont pay the bill. With prepaid, users call and they can be cut off once credit is used up. I guess it's an issue of trust here.

um, I recently asked Voda to open my mobile for overseas calls, and there was no security costs involved for me, no extra blobby bits or fees or anything.

It all depends on how long your contract has been in existense. If you been with them for like 5 yrs with no bad debts, they won't ask for a deposit.

Sounds right - I dont recall ever paying a deposit.

I think it also depends on your monthly spend. If you spend R10 a month on calls they want a deposit. If you spend R3000 a month above your talk1000 contract - they won't ask.
