International Cell Phone Usage

I am lucky enough to be going to Italy end of this year,

now trying to be able to remain in contact with someone here in Joburg,

looked at Vodacoms Roaming (insanely expensive + have to take out contract (not able to use topup contract I am on)

Mtn, R33.5 per 20 seconds or part thereof, plus an unspecified connection fee,

looking at Getting a local prepaid sim in Italy , but I read that you have to be an Italian Citizen,

Any advise?

Pre-paid is the best way to go.

About their policies regarding the sale of pre-paid cards unfortunately no idea !

There seem to be hundereds of companies in the UK and in the US who will get you a local italian prepaid sim card, but they do not ship to south Africa....

ARGH this is so frustrating... I cannot spend 100 rand per minute to talk to someone...

This is how raoming on any contract works.

U get billed according to that network. They send the invoice to your SP.
Your SP settles the bill add their share per minute then bill you accordingly.

Pre-paid while roaming is way cheaper. Goodluck getting the SIM ...
