Internet settings for BlackBerry 7290

Hello peps! I am new here, I have a big problem. I bought a BlackBerry 7290 phone recently, my problem is that I am now tired of calling vodacom asking them to send me internet settings for my phone. They always tell me that my phone is not supported on prepaid, please guys I need to use the net on my phone how do i go abut it. It wont work even using my laptop, althhough the modem is being detected it connects to the remote computer using this number *99***1# but it fails to establish connection.

have you opted for the BIS solution? if so then VC should check if the blackberry apn is provisioned to your sim, quick way to tell would be an UPPER CASE GPRS tag at the top centre of your screen, if not let them reactivate and resend you the service books, that should sort your prob..if the the modem section still doesnt work pm me and i'll dig out my old how to i used many moons ago. ta Lipo

BlackBerry 7290 gprs settings

I just want to use the phone as a modem. on the bar under the time it always says data connection failed. What should I do?:confused:
 
If anyone is still monitoring this thread...you will also need to to bypass the Blackberry APN by setting up the standard "internet" APN under the TCP settings:

if on OS 4.1
Go to Options
Select Advanced
select TCP
Enter "Internet" in the APN field
Save

You should be be able connect now via normal GPRS (but not through the Vodafone live browser) through the vnilla Blackberry bowser.
 
Here are the instructions to set up a 7100 or 7290 as a modem.

1. Install Desktop 3.6.3 bundle 9 or higher

2. A RIM Virtual Serial Port should be automatically installed along with a Standard Modem added that points to the correct port. You can check these values in Control Panel>System>Device Manager>Ports to see what COM port was assigned to your RIM virtual serial port, and Control Panel>System>Phone and Modems for the Standard Modem

3. Change the properties of the Standard Modem so that the following init string is added to the Advanced extra init commands; AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"

4. Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Network and Dialup Connections, and add a dial-up networking connection that uses the modem you just added. Phone number should be *99***1#.

5. To dial up: Connect the BB via USB, with the radio on. Make sure you have a SIM that supports the Internet APN and ensure that Desktop Manager is running. Dial. No username or password is needed.

6. You should now be connected.
 
using the "Internet" APN, can one connect to POP3 email using the blackberry .... on prepaid ?
 
The BB device does not access any POP3, IMAP4 or any other mailbox directly from the device. With that in mind, unless you have some kind of application installed on the device to do such a thing, the APN in use is not relevant.

With the present BIS 1.8 system, all you do is set your BIS mailbox to check that POP3 account of yours. It will pull a copy into the BIS box which will push it out to the handset. Alternatively, you can see if you can set a forwarding rule on your POP3 mailbox to forward a copy of all incoming mail to the BIS address. With all that done, you just set your reply address of choice.

BIS 2.1 will make this all much easier and more managable.

If you're trying to access your GMail account, there is another way....

how would you setup gmail when prepaid :o
 
For settings

My Service Provider doent have settings for my handheld 7290. can i access gprs on it by setup my own settings. if yes then what settings i have to do?
