iPhone looks pretty sweet

:(

I sooooo hate apple for doing this, it's just toooooo good.

good thing it'll only be here next year some time, mah Model T aka N91 just have to do till then.

really sucks that it doesn't have 3G though
I think the 3G isn't too much of a loss because of the wi-fi, but it does mean that you need the phone contract and pay for the wi-fi.
But it sounds to me that the phone isn't going to be available outside of the American market anytime soon. There is a lot of network specific functions that look like they aren't standard GSM plus the special yahoo internet functions. I don't see the likes of MTN, Cell-C or Vodacom supporting these features.
Pretty much a square kick in the nuts for Nokia and the established cell phone companies... if the phone works nearly as well as they say, it certainly makes them all look like a bunch of amateurs.
Now I'd buy the device as a straight ipod in a heartbeat.
I also like the possibilities that may come about with moving the "multi-touch" functions into the full size desktops and laptops... think of a 24" iMac built into your desk with no need for keyboard or mouse, just direct interaction with the screen.

tempting and cool as it sounds, the last thing I want to be doing every day is touching the monitor. There are MUCH better ways on interacting with an interface already available.

Ask any full time touchscreen user how nasty it looks after just one day's worth of fingerprints. no really, it looks terrible...

Also, touchscreen layers reduce the brightness and viewing angle, which is primarily why you dont see huge touchscreen monitors...coz currently they just suck.

Sounds like they aren't using the "normal" touch screen materials in the iphone... but we'll find out when the reviews come out.
If what you say is right, its going to be a big problem. Haven't really seen the same on too many touch screens myself... but I don't use them all that much.
If the stuff they use is anything like the MBP track pads, it won't be an issue - they are amazing with effectively no usage streaking or discoloration.
