Is anyone in SA using the Amazon Fire TV?

Old thread I know but I'm using an Amazon Fire stick hacked to run Kodi and I also have an Android box, both brought with me from the UK. Both work great on my 6mpbs connection

I would like some assistance. A friend of mine bought a amazon fire tv stick, which was able to register with Amazon. The from is that it doesn't play so we don't know what to do from there. Can someone please help. I do apologise on replying on someone's post

What is it that will not play? On a guess that you may be talking about Amazon Prime Video, the fact that you created an Amazon account does not mean you can stream as that needs a subscription. We probably need more info.
 
Anyone on this thread still using the fire tv, I have used it until recently when Amazon started blocking us. Any ideas of how to get around the block
 
I bought mine in the UK last year. Running fine although I took the precaution of signing up with Unblockr to hide my IP address.
 
Is it possible to change the location setting in the Amazon Fire Stick to South Africa?
So that Netflix displays the South Africa version instead of the US version?
 
I have 2 and i use daily...Using smartdnsproxy..So many addons and ways to watch.
 
For initial setup you need a VPN and thereafter not to use sideloaded APKs?

As far as I can tell the only way you'd be getting the US version of netflix is if you're also utilising a VPN or SmartDNS service, right?

EDIT: I just checked mine and by default it shows SA Netflix. It's only when I enable the US one on my smart DNS service that it changes.

I'm not a huge fan of mine. For SA there are so many other better options.

You can get them from Takealot. I got two of mine from there, and one from Raru when they had the USA store.
I have three TVs in the house and everyone has their own.

I think I have bought 6 of them, but two were the very old weak ones and got replaced. I use three of them through a DNS redirector, and they think they are in the UK, so I get the UK TV apps. You do have to register an account in the Amazon country that you want to register it in as you have to login when you switch it on for the 1st time.
I have also side loaded some USA TV apps. It is essentially a customised Android box, and with something like Apptoid you can load more programs.
I have a 4th one that does not go through the DNS director which I was using to watch local Amazon Prime, but I could not get the thing working with a local account. I tried my Amazon US account which honestly says I live here, and the Prime help e-mail said I should I try a new account for Prime, and it did not work. I eventually used it like a Chrome Cast and told it to play from the app on my cell phone ... crazy I know that I had issues getting an Amazon device working with Amazon Prime, but works fine with everything else. You could watch Prime through the Silk browser at one stage with 5.1 sound but they stopped that.

So if you want to watch overseas content through a VPN or DNS redirector then probably good, but I can not say I have had fun trying to use it honestly locally. The boxes I bought were all imports, as they say they are on Takealot, so maybe that was it. Within the software I could not set it up to be local South Africa in the regional settings.
