Is this laptop dead?

Do you know if it switched off when the lightning struck or was it seen to die at that point? Maybe it was unaffected and the battery drained and died whilst only the charger was damaged.

I once scored myself a laptop when my brother's company had a similar issue where it would go off after a few seconds. They replaced it via insurance. I asked him to bring it home and it turned out that only the charger needed replacement.

The main thing is you must find out if the hard drive is still intact. If there was anything valuable on there you'll want to get it out and back it up to another hard drive. G/l

Hard disk will be fine, just remove and stick in a usb case.

Suggest find a repair place that does board level repairs - there are some around. Check gumtree.
Your average PC store won't be a good bet though, as they're clueless, and will probably damage it.

You can try a different PSU - just make sure the voltage is the same or within about 10%.
eg - if you have a 16.5V@3A PSU, another 16.5V PSU is fine to try. Amps don't matter - as long as its >= its ok*

*Simplified somewhat, but ok for you to test for a minute or two.

The rest of the specs look decent. Good choice I think. Hook it up to a couple of proper screens when you're at home and you'll be laughing.

Already hooked up to a full HD monitor. The touchscreen is very cool. DJing is taking some getting used to but it could be a winner in this department...
