The Telkom NT box is their equipment, so they have to collect it and maybe revert 1 or 2 wire changes.

Other than that there is NOTHING else they need to perform client side.

only the DSLAM port installation/config left.

Just to give guys who might read this some feedback.

I went from ISDN to ADSL, a technician does have to come out to your premise, and will physically remove the ISDN box and he will have to make changes to your lines at the premises.

Thus the self install option does not necessarily apply in such a case. Even if you choose to have the ISDN canceled on a separate order from your ADSL self install order, you will still be dependant on a techie coming out and doing the work.

As u say, that is how it would normally happen. I got all that done for free with a 'self-install' by throwing my toys out the cot as I had been messed around for a few months. The techie did have to come out but in my case, at no charge.

The only thing stopping them from only removing the NTU and letting the customer proceed with a self-install is Telkom policy/procedure. I cant think of a reason for their policy other than to force u to pay the R437.50 for the techie to rewire and plug ur router in.

AFAIK there is absolutely no wiring change required at a customer's premises when converting from ISDN[2a] to ADSL - the wiring changes happen at the exchange or possibly at a roadside distribution box if that's where the ADSL DSLAM is located.

Oh, right.. i forget that mine wasnt a standard ISDN setup... they extended the telephone line and had it lead into my room (where I wanted it) and then were probably too lazy to wire it so that it could be easily removed one day...
Edit: So, to remove it should be as easy as just unplugging the NTU from the wall socket. The rest of the effort, as u say, happens off the premises.
