ISP Selection for ADSL

Hi All

After my unfortunate bad run with WBS, I am now looking at starting slow. I was looking at the ADSL 192 to start with, but would like to know what ISPs are out there, and what you woudl suggest as far as selecting an ISP is concerned, or should I just go with the Telkom Default?

I would prefer an ISP that woudl allow me to grow as I would need in the future. I am also looking for an ISP that you can talk to, and theat actually helps out their clients.

So any and all ideas would be welcome.

I've been with Telkom ISP for the two years I've had ADSL. But I'm moving ISP on 1st August because Telkom are too expensive and I'm tired of dealing with their useless staff. There are quite a few ISP's which will serve your needs. Lewstherin is right, it's best to read the forums to learn more, as there is simply too much info to try and put into one post. Right now the cheapest ISP is Web Africa who is offering a special for MyADSL members @ R199 for 30GB. Next cheapest is SAOL, then Axxess, Hyperlink, etc.

you mention about Web Africa have something like 30GB for MyAdsl members. how do i sign up?
 
I concur, we should have an FAQ.
Answering the same questions over and over quickly becomes a chore...

I agree we absolutely do need to have FAQ section. Although I strongly believe in answering questions, it does get a little too much when the same questions get asked over and over. Because we are getting so many new members signing up, it's only going to get worse.

This doesn't mean the new members must be too shy to ask questions. Besides a few rude individuals who don't have the time or energy to answer questions, most of us will help our new members in any way we can.
 
I also think it'll save some bandwidth in the long run. On the other hand a lot more people are joining the MYADSL, to be able to ask their questions. So we're actually getting more members in the long run.
 
You have to understand, alot of new users (like myself a few months back) are a bit overwhelmed by all the topics that appear similar, with 1000 replies. It's much more re-assuring for them to start a new post asking exactly what they need to know.

I think it's possible that it could be misconstrued by some that you're recommending people go for the 24 month contract, which needless to say, I'm sure you're not. ;p

Certainly, I did a double take when I read that sentence. Maybe it's just me though.

You should rather update the ADSL Line rental prices (from 1st of Aug) since it's happening in 4 days time and maybe in the FAQ have a "Bigger-cap" ISP section(or a hyperlink to the section on the frontpage)..because people might not go to the front-page of Hellkom to see all the info there

Thanks for the replies, greatly appreciate it. I din't mean to create such a fuss and open up the can of worms on this. WHat I was looking for and I should have made it clearer, sorry my fault, was what ISPs offer the best after sales service. They are all much of the same pricing (big surprise there) but I was interested in their after sales service, when things can and will go wrong.
