Setup a kind of a poll in the gaming section of myadsl to rank ISP's as too how good each is when it comes to online gaming?

Something that I'd def consult before making a decision about what ISP to use.

Your thoughts on this?

:D

This may be a n00b question, but does your ISP have any influence on online gaming? AFAIK their is a difference between IS and SAIX ISPs but thats all that Im aware of. Feel free to correct me if Im wrong :D

I think it's really dependant on the Tier 1 Network ie. SAIX/IS/UUNET as that's where the majority of traffic shaping is going to take place.

A better question would be too POLL which network gamers prefer to use.
Based on that network, select an ISP which runs on that network...

PS. For myself i find SAIX much better than I.S .... :D

Last year after the 1st of August my ISDN performance took a serious knock in playing overseas. Pings in WoW dropped from 300-500 ms to 3000-9000 ms making it unplayable. Had to get a VPN to be able to play WoW. Had same issues with GW when i started it.

Now after being absent from GW its all hunky dory, but i dont know for how long though.. eish.

useless, you hav'nt tried WoW again? Im quite interested to know what the pings are now on ISDN.

I am pretty sure unshaped SAIX ADSL is the best option at the moment for international gaming. Note, you do not have to get it from Telkom. Others like SAOL etc resell the unshaped SAIX accounts. IS use satelite for international, which is bad news for online overseas gaming. I am not sure what the status is for UUNET. And wireless has issues with online gaming in general.

Local online gaming is a different issue, since local is not shaped, so for that an unshaped account is too expensive again. There the high local cap accounts like those from IS are probably beter. But do not have one myself, so do not know for sure.

ISDN also usually good, since it is not shaped, but then one cannot use it in the day without burning one's bank account.

i need to re-activate the sub, retype in my credit card details... update my WoW with around 400MB of patches... ad nauseaum... GW was so much easier to restart after 8 months it makes WoW look outdated. ;)
